The bikes came to town a couple months ago

They set up "racks" all over town

The Racks do not have chargers. The bikes are on a battery replacement program. I have observed 1 person tasked with this.

Daily (especially on weekends) I see 30 or 40 people riding the bikes

The bikes do what they say they do (generally speaking...)

My testing showed that the power assist is based on force and not cadence
There is an 8spd NuVinci hub on the back
There is an bafang hub on the front

There are odd drum brakes front and rear - they suck AFAIAC
Braking was tuned to quell rider fear and not for maximum stopping
Going down hill and full tilt... NOT ENOUGH BRAKE FOR ME

In San Francisco... eh...
People just need to learn how to lean back while front braking....
But I digress - this is a pilot program intended to rope in new riders and nearly all novice riders have a totally irrational fear of flying over the bars... so tuning down the brakes was the best bet (tho... eventually someone will overshoot and get hit by a car)

...

Power comes on immediately - a little jerky - but it immediately announces that you are "assisted" which is the message we want to send.

Feels like... 350W
On the flat in the tallest gear they go plenty fast

On steep hills, taking a lane, they are inadiquate
Since the power does not run thru the gear box...
And since the power is low...
To climb steep hills you have to kick down into 2nd or 3rd gear and spin the pedals like mad

It CAN climb steep hills... but really its YOU climbing that hill with a 350W assist.

...

I took the bike off road
At night
Down sketchy drug addict trails (the trail down by the river where the junkies do their thing)

Front headlight SUCKS
Rear tail light is sufficient

I was able to ride in the dark... only because I am OG
The forward lighting is insufficient to get the job done*

There is no suspension but I was able to keep the bike under me thru harsh terain
I dropped into a 10' dirt path that was very steep - did not biff it
I climbed back up a 10' very steep path... and only made it... due to my experience with FWD

The FWD hub will not maintain traction on anything like dirt

...

The bike did not run out of batteries on us
The phone app told us it had 40% when we picked it up
We rode axp 9 miles, mostly flat, lots of hills
First few miles were Kimberly
Last miles were me pushing it as hard as I could
It got us home

Next morning it had a dead battery
Creepers in an unmarked van came and picked it up
We then got a text telling us that applying the wheel lock was insufficient...
That we were not to lock it to public property...
That we were not to lock it to city property...
That we were to lock it only to approved bike racks or their racks

Which... KILLS the whole "Last Mile" which you are supposed to be solving JUMP BIKES ****
(I realize its just a CYA move... but think ok?)

frock Lawyers... All but the 7 that I am friends with.
and... on to other news

...

With me riding the Jump bike I was able to consistently outpace Kimberly
Kim is a novice rider on a 48V kit running 12S with a shunt mod - on full suspension
Obviously our bike dominates the Jump (full suspension, 10X power and torque...)
BUT -

The Jump bike held its own and moved us along at a pace which was appropriate for somewhere between novice and intermediate.
They made good decisions

I like the bike
I liked the experience

The buttons were already shitty on the back... hard to type in codes

The price structure was clear
It told us how many miles we rode

...

This review is out of order (as I am working on a Hoover Mod Review and doing this while my pics download...)

The bike closest to our house had a dead battery (Saturday Night, Santa Cruz)
The map displayed more unavailable bikes than available bikes

NOTE - THAT PEOPLE CAN GET A GOOD GUESS OF WHERE YOU ARE>>>>>>
I.E. IF you ride one of these bikes to your secret jack-spot... anybody with the app... can see that there is a bike there.
Think about that... From an adversarial perspective and include statistics
There are only 30 or so bikes
ANyway - dont care

I like the basket in the front - I filled it with my full face helmet, gloves, jacket, and shirt... after I over-heated from exercise
So - YES they give you exercise if you push on them

We were both in full gear
Nobody biffed it

Night ride on roads, bike trails, foot trails, dirt trails, etc

Overall I was very happy with the bike
I was happy with the performance
I am happy with the program

I think it is a success and I would not change anything about it
(REMEMBER - IF I SAY SOMETHING IS SHIT... THAT IS RELATIVE TO MY STANDARD)

To buy off the shelf, something that meets my standard (not aesthetics mind you...) you would have to pay many thousands
Full suspension
Illegal torque and top speed
Super sketch light weight RC Airplane batteries

SO - For "normal folk"
These bikes rock

JUMP on one and see for yourself

We got our neighbor interested
He signed up and is going to ride tonight

The bikes are flaming hot orangishred and I like seeing them all over

We rode 2-up on Kims bike to go find the Jump Bike
We saw folks riding Jump bikes 2-up
Bartender down the street said he saw some going 3-up (but kid on the back fell off)

The solar panel presumably only offsets the quiescent current for the interface
The interface is clear and easy to understand

Bears shit in the woods, so do rabbits

OK - my pictures are done downloading...
ANDROID -> TELL ME WHY IT TAKES 5 MINUTES TO DOWNLOAD 30 PICTURES TO MY COMPUTER USING A USB C CABLE ?!?!?!

in closing
A note on language...

THIS AINT A KIDS FORUM
We are effectively working on mopeds here...
So... since we are adults... I use adult language...
Which is the language I developed surviving 40 years including 10 with the governement
SO - tolerate it or dont read my shit.

People Die Horrible Deaths as a result of our Military Stance
We have a huge nuclear weapon stockpile
We have a leader who is incomprehensibly unqualified
Half our country is strung out on "legal" drugs, while we fight a "war on drugs", and destroy families
Nearly every person I know, lives outside of fear, by executing denial in one way or another
We have militarized police who enforce tens of thousands of laws and we have more people caged than the rest of the world combined
We are completely corrupted by BIG BUSINESS at the cost of our Environment, Economy, Health, ....
We use SLAVE LABOR all over the world to save $3 on $50 items and the owners of these companies have BILLIONS (that's you AMAZON)

Our Department of Energy is a secretive, cloaked, entity...
That hides behind its Nuclear Weapons Program... to avoid admitting that it has frocked UP its primary objective

Nearly all the work gets done by the Military Industrial Complex
The MIC is riddled with influence from big money (like auto manufacturers)
The MIC workforce is cowed, threatened, and coerced... You are in... and you are in for life... with a good pinch of selfish greed.

NOBODY
and I mean NOBODY... in the MIC... is going to stand up for whats right

They have their careers to worry about
They have their pensions and status and clearances...
They work under threat of espionage (threat of death) at all times
LIKE frocking HELL ARE THEY GOING TO STAND UP
AND TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON
WHEN IT MEANS THEY WILL LIKELY LOSE THEIR JOB
LOSE THEIR CAREER - AND LIKELY LOSE THEIR FREEDOM

DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?

IF YOU ARE IN THE MIC
AND YOU SPEAK THE TRUSTIEST OF TRUTH
YOU GO IN A frocking CAGE BROTHER

DO YOU THINK THAT IS A FUNNY HAHA?

They mask the inefficiency of the programs they run behind NDA's, NTK's, and veiled threats.

They over-specialize their workforce to lock them in

They ... oh wait... I was supposed to be writing an ebike review...

I am ... now...

Move along
Nothing to see here ma'am
You just keep your little head down and eeeeevvvvveeeerrrrryyyy thing will be Ohhhhhh Kaaaaay

Just take your little pills and watch your little TV shows
Dont worry... those pills are not drugs... bad people do drugs

Dont worry... TV isn't created by the greediest fuckers imaginable...
Its a healthy production meant to ... improve my life and yours... and...

We can all save the world by just sitting at home and updating our facebook pages

yea... sweet... let me get another prescription...
Let me cage another black man because he does not have a perscription

...

So ->
Dont ever tell me to chill or ask me why I feel anxiety or suggest that I am not doing it right.

I am a full on alpha male who has calibrated eyes and ears
I learned at a very young age (like THREE) that the world can be an ugly place

Not all of it is ugly - duh - of course
BUT
UGLY IS ROT AND ROT SPREADS

Happy Sunday
I hope Jesus smiled down on you at church.
Call me up when you are ready to change the world for the better... otherwise... stay out of my way please.

I am on a tour of radical truth.

Pics?

We rode last night.
The program is a smashing success.
The headlights must be upgraded
The front brake needs more bias

Hehe... "They set up "racks" all over town"... or maybe read the news "from elsewhere"? See in ES Newz...

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=96314

The scooters and their swappable batteries have been wildly successful in the densely populated Taiwanese market. Over the last three years, Gogoro has facilitated over 17 million battery swaps at their stations.

Pretty sure the "answer" is in battery swapping.

Step one is sparking interest in ebikes.
Charge station, swaps, pickup program... Matters not.

This early.. . they need to pick them up just to assess wear and service mechanical parts.

Santa Cruz now has a generation who think power assist rocks.

^^ MY vote is for (electric) bike RENTALS... rather than "SHARING". As a way to get the pubic addicted to electric traction. :) (The pubic don't share well...) Agree?

Semantics... But sure I agree.

I have been renting Jump Bikes... Even tho I have two perfectly good personal ebikes.

I like not worrying when I reach the end of the "last mile"... As opposed to the weight of protecting personal property.
