As I understand things; a motor at higher rpms is more efficient than at low rpms.
Problem is building in a compact, efficient, silent gearbox into a mid drive or hub motor... NOT:

This motor uses steel segments between the inner and outer magnetic fields or rotor and stator, to be the 'gearbox'.
The 'gear ratio' is altered by changing the ratio magnetic poles and steel segments, giving a quite large choice of ratios.
Here's a vid that will help you visualize how the hell this works!? :)

Now the same principle can be used in mid drives where the center shaft is the rotor/spins
or
In hub motors where the hub is the rotor/spins.

So... am I missing something here?
Low efficiency perhaps??
Why isn't this in widespread use???
