Ok, so i'm trying to open up the B battery and am not having much fun ... removed the screws, cut the stickers, pulled on the handle side all i could.. tried to wedge a putty knife into the edge to pry it off .. nadda...

Anyone done this and know whats going on ? .. glue ?

a bigger hammer perhaps ?

Maybe they ultrasonically welded it, for leakproofness?

That would kinda suck...

But it might be more likely they used doublesided tape on at least two sides of the pack inside it, and that over time that's REALLY stuck the pack together.

What happens if you slowly warm up the pack just a little, to something like human body temperature? Or chill it way down, to nearly freezing? Both of those conditions tend to make adhesives less...adhesive. :)

it's plastic end caps onto aluminum shell so no welding there....
Then what I would expect next is that there are "fingers" or tabs of plastic that are clipping in around the inside or outside of the aluminum, with bumps of some type that latch into slots on the aluminum.

Depending on how they made it, if the aluminum "rim" is *inside* the plastic, and the bumps are tall enough and shaped in a certain way, it may be nearly impossible to remove the end caps without damaging them, because putting the cap on would let the bumps spread the outer edge / end of the cap enough to let the bumps then drop into slots on the aluminum, but not be able to be pulled back off the same way without prying up the edge of the plastic at *all* the bump points at the same time (or breaking off the bumps).

If they *also* used adhesive/sealant of some type, applied before installing the cap onto the aluminum, it might require cutting into the plastic to get it off.

I've had a number of products made that way, though ti's more often plastic on plastic, instead of plastic on aluminum, which can be easier to detach without destruction becuase both sides can bend a little...plastic on aluminum only one side bends, and it's usually the side you don't need to as much. :( Makes it highly unlikely to self-disassemble, but it makes it more likely to require destructive disassembly for repairs. :(

You're talking about the plastic end cap?

Compressed air likely won't hurt anything but if it's anything like the picture, what else can be holding it on? Kinda see some adhesive but you already used a heat gun?

That image shows places for screws--were there any in there, or were they not used, and only glued in?

IF the glue is strong enough, then even after removing screws it could be quite a problem getting it off--but if there is no "lip" on the plastic cover, or you don't care about the lip, you could run a box knife or other thin but strong and sharp blade around the edge, between plastic and aluminum, parallel to the end-edge of the aluminum, to cut thru the glue. Presumably you'd have to go deep enough in to go past the possible adhesive thickness, perhaps 1/16"-1/8" beyond the thickness of the aluminum itself.

Regarding heat, if it's silicone or other similar adhesives/sealants, the heat wouldn't help anyway. *cold* might, but you might have to get it cold enough that hte plastic itself would become brittle and break. :(
