My MXUS V3 hub motor get really hot when driving by bike. I made 30 min test drive and controller cut the power to the motor couple of times. Motor temperature limit was set to 130 C degrees (266 F). Voltage is about 66 V and max current is maybe 50 A. That's only guess because I don't have any wattmeter to measure that.

Here is the motor wiring:

Hall sensors
Motor blue - controller green
Motor green - controller blue
Motor yellow - controller yellow

Phase wire
Motor blue - controller green
Motor green - controller yellow
Motor yellow - controller blue

I have already put 5 ml ferrofluid to the motor. Motor is 5Tx12 / 7,2 kV model and I have 21" moto wheel at back.

Motor calculation shows that consumption should be about 24 Wh/km when my bike's real consumption is about 45 Wh/km. Battery capacity is 13,2 Ah and I can drive about 20 km when I should be able to drive like 40 km. More information here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94291&p=1381334#p1380877

So there should be something wrong on my motor. But what? Do you have any ideas what to do next? Is there any magic tricks what I can do for the motor to get the temperature down?

Is it possible that there is several possible wirings which get the motor rotationg but some wirings get motor running hotter than some other wirings?

With my leaf motor it's absolutely silent. I really like it.

Can that be completely silent, or is it dependent on the motor?

In other league. Kelly is worth about $50 (unit price when ordering 15 pieces). My 5 year old son has KLS7230s on this modified Oset and it gets warm on his usage. I could not imagine using it myself.

Side covers been modified.

axles are made with 2 side grooves, in one goes hall wires, in other goes pipes and hall/temp cable, axle diameter in that side is 30mm, so side cover is modified to fit bigger bearing ID-30, OD-42. axles are pressed to standard stamped steel stator.
I can offer just completely modified motors for 420euro. 4x15 and 3x19 winding. lead time is 1-2 weeks.

The 3K-Turbo, upgrades the axle from 17mm to 20mm diameter on the wire side with a larger bearing to squeeze in 5.26mm² phase wires

The 4T has one more strand of .5mm copper magnet wire compared to the 3T winding (16x4T vs. 21x3T)

The total power handling is thus a theoretical 1/64th more.

I'd go with a 3T personally, and keep the voltage lower. But I also like a more modest acceleration, so feeding the 3T more amps isn't a priority for me.

Just my $0.02.

I'd have to agree with Teslaenvy, I have the 4T but in the V2 flavor on 48V and I like it.
You can feed it more amps then a higher turn count motor.
You can decrease the wheel diameter = less speed, but more torque!
I am not into speed as much as others here on the "Sphere" buts these motors are friggin' fun a.f.

Hey everyone.

I have a quick question that I hope someone can help me with.

I just built a system that uses the mxus v2 4t motor wired to a Sabvoton 100A controller. I hooked up the Luna Cycles 72v 20s3P 10ah battery pack for testing. Everything is running on the stand very well. I have the current limit set to 30a continous and 40a max for that battery pack. I am running a 17" rear moto wheel.

Should I be able to ride this thing w/ my big ass on it w/o exeecding the 40a limit?

I was thinking about buying another battery to run in parallel so I could increase the current limits to 60a and 80a. Or should I just buy a different battery?

A different battery would be ideal with more P and with higher current batteries.

Set up your batteries for 50% of what they can actually draw for longevity.

I can personally attest that the MXUS 4T has quite a bit more grunt than the TC3080 with same amp/volts imput and all other things being equal. BUUTTT.... the TC 3080 is 5 pounds lighter and the quality of the motor's construction is more refined.
