I have been working on designing a gearbox for an Ebike and I have been pretty fascinated by the Xiongda 2 speed hub motor. But I have struck a roadblock in understanding the working.I wanted to know how the fixed plate which is holding the 2 sets of planetary gears mounted in the motor? How is it fixed in its place and what is holding it in place?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot :D

There is a long discussion thread from when they fist came out. It has all the details you'd want.

Could you please post the link of that discussion thread?

It uses a small oblong keyway and key on the motor shaft and plate.

I am still not understanding this. The motor shaft is rotating and the plate is fixed so how is this possible?Could you please provide a sketch or some sort of drawing?

Sorry shouldn't have said motor shaft. The motor spins around the axle the axle is bolted to tbe bike frame the plate is attached to the axle with the key. The motor has a small fixed metal cog that spins the planatery gears. See the 62 page thread on how the motor changes gear by reversing and the clutches come in to play.
