I am posting this now so anyone who is interested could make plans as soon as possible. This event is only about four months away, and it is in a new location...

Northstar California Resort in North Lake Tahoe
Free-Ride Festival (Fri, Sat, Sun)
September 14-16

Northstar California Resort in North Lake Tahoe
OutDoor Demo (Sun, Mon)
September 16-17

The indoor event will be at the Reno Convention Center
Interbike Expo (Tue, Wed, Thu)
September 18-20

All local hotels have free shuttle buses to the Reno airport and the convention center on all days. Free shuttle buses will be on a continuous loop from the hotels to the Northstar resort (45 minute drive) on Sept 18,19,20 (see the info several posts below)

https://www.interbike.com/

The "Northstar California Resort" is located on the California side of the Cal/Nevada border, a border which runs vertically through Lake Tahoe. The resort is halfway between the northern tip of the lake, and the City of Truckee.

"...For the first time, Interbike will open its doors to the public with the all new Northstar Free-Ride Festival powered by Interbike. The festival will take place at Northstar California Resort in North Lake Tahoe, September 14-16, 2018. The event will kick off Friday night and will go through Sunday evening, providing a haven for cycling enthusiasts of all levels and their families. Your favorite Interbike brands will be onsite starting Saturday morning with plenty of bikes to demo on Northstar’s epic trails. Gondola access is available too! The weekend will be packed with riding, product demos, live music, food and drink, shopping and much more. Stay tuned for more details on events and registration!..."

"...Northstar California Resort will be the new home for Interbike’s OutDoor Demo September 16-17 and all new Consumer Festival. This event gives cycling retailers and enthusiasts the opportunity to test the performance of the latest products the industry – in the terrain it was designed for. There’s no better place for you to get the hands-on product experience you need to educate your customers throughout the buying process. Northstar California Resort is known for its epic downhill riding and beautiful terrain. Consumers and retailers will be able to test bikes on Northstar’s world-class mountain bike trails (with lift access!) The Consumer Festival will also feature live music, food and drink, shopping and much more.  Register today...."

"...Interbike Expo, September 18-20, This is a trade event and is NOT open to the public. No personal buyers will be allowed into the show. To gain entrance to the show the company must apply to attend and be qualified by show management by providing materials confirming their role in the bicycle industry.

Hmmm.... sort of close enough to drive there.

It should be much more pleasant outdoors than Las Vegas.

Las Vegas, elevation 2,000 ft above sea level, climate: desert...Avg temps in Sept 96 / 70F (36 / 21C)

Reno / Tahoe...6,200 ft...dense pine trees near a lake...Avg temps in September: 82/45F (28 / 8C)...

Sounds good to me!

I live 4 miles from Northstar in Kings Beach. There are 100s of miles of trails in and around Northstar. If anyone wants a tour guide I'd be happy to volunteer. Bring your bike and I'll organize a group ride. Bike paths, on road , off road, flowy singletrack or technical downhills, I'm up for whatever. I'll definitely be at Northstar demo'ing everything I can.

If anyone need advise on where to stay/what to do ask away......

What I most need is a list of hotels within walking distance of the convention center. I suspect that there will be a shuttle bus running between the convention center and Northstar Resort, but...I haven't been able to verify that yet...

Atlantis or Peppermill casino would be your best bet. There are a lot of neighborhoods around there so you might try VRBO. The downtown casinos like Circus Circus are the cheapest places to stay in Reno but a bit far to walk. Its a 45min drive to Northstar from Reno, there are no local bus routes that take you there. There are several shuttle services which are around $50 one way. If Interbike is not offering shuttle service you might look into car rentals. You could also take the train for $15 from downtown Reno to Truckee. Once in Truckee there are local bus routes with bike racks that will take you all around Tahoe for cheap.

Ron I've been reading your posts and articles for years it would be great to meet up for a conversation or at least buy a spot welder from you :) Derek

Devo is right on about the closest hotels. And both the Atlantis and Peppermill are awesome places.

For those who are vaguely interested but unsure if a trip is worth it for ebikes at the convention and the mountain resort test-rides...the national auto museum is in Reno, which was formerly the Harrah casino car museum. When I saw it [years ago], there were three warehouses of incredibly rare and historic cars. Just a thought...

Bump...

Today is the 16th, so if you want to secure a discount by booking a flight or hotel reservations before 30 days to the event, tonight is the last night.

I really want to go this time. Waiting on a few emails to see if i can get into the vendor side of things.

The test ride track was worth going to experience getting to ride with dozens of above average riders on ebikes hooning all day. I will try to make this one too.

OK, it looks like I'll be going. Anyone else going to be there?

Hey Spinner, I should be able to sneak in there on the 18th, 19th and/or 20th.

I'll be there during the vendor days ^_^

I wanted to go but now I have to do a consulting job those days. Sorry, I need the money.

Take lots of pictures.

I'll be at Northstar on Sunday. Weather has been great. Not too smoky although another 7,000 acres just sparked up south of here. Dave Debose said he's coming, I might be team Tangent for a day to get into the event. The ecobike adventure guys will be there

Still hoping to hear from Spinningmagnets. Happy to put you up and I have everyday free to do bike stuff. I have an agenda of course. I am desperate to find someone who can build swing arms and wants to play in the snow.

There is a Big need for a small business that makes rear swingarms for use with electric hub motors and even a mid drive motor on the swingarm right in front of the back wheel/tire.
There are many of the old school full suspension bikes that are 26 inch , where the front triangle and the rear shock can be used. These bikes are a reasonable price used since most everyone now wants a rear that takes a 12mm x 148 mm rear through axle peddle bike.

With a fabricator who knows about the needs of electric conversions we can then have a number of rear swingarms to chose from, with longer wheelbases , the ability to accept 26 inch 27.5 inch and 29 er wheels .
1) Swingarm for large heavy DD hubs that also have integrated torque plates on each side . ( that would also work for the Mac and similar size hub motors.
2) Swingarm long enough to put a small hub motor or cyclone motor to drive the gears
3 ) Swingarm for people who want to use the smaller mid-drives like the TDSD 2 or the newer Lingbei , or what looks most interesting now the GNG Pro X1.

With # 3 above a swingarm that can accept not only the old fashioned 10mm x 135 Dropout Quick Release wheels, more important a swingarm that will accept the modern 12mm x 143mm and 12mm x 148mm wheels !

And Video's Please, lots of them .

Does anyone know how to podcast ?

Is there a way for E.S. to pay someone some $$ for doing a bunch of Youtube videos pertaining to all e-bikes and e-bike kits that are shown at Interbike ?
or even a secure direct pay to that person.

Or even better yet, if any of the Major Vendors could have on their webpage a window to click on to donate a couple of dollars up to what ever amount you can spare, that they would then forward to the person/persons that would do several video's on the e-bikes , ebike kits at this years Interbike.

Thank you Scooterman, didn't think there were other needs. I just want enough space to try things like bolting the kitchen sink up to a 5 in tire to get traction. Skat Trac will glue on paddles if I give them a rim for a jig. Then maybe more distance for hill climbing, who knows. I am looking at single swing arms that may be easier to modify. I am good for maybe 5 swing arms. Most of my ideas are bad, but I keep trying. Will post if I find anyone to take my money.

addmotor will be at Interbike with this single swing arm: https://www.addmotor.com/shop/m-850-p7
