I am about to hang one of these things on an ICE Adventure HD tadpole trike.

I have a 1.5 watt LED visibility whip, an LED headlight, tail lights, and a 12v-to 5v-stepdown device for powering a 2-amp cell phone charger.

Should I get a 52v-to12v stepdown transformer, and attach it directly to the battery, or wiill the TSDZ2 handle the load?

The max. light output of a tsdz2 controller is just 6V 0,5A max. (3W max.)
So you can only power up a relay or a small led light.
The advice is to power the leds by the battery (with the step down) and the on/off switch by a 6V relay on the controller.
This way you can use the display to switch the lights.
