Hi All,

I need some advice for a robust rear drop out for 12mm through axle. WIll be without a derailleur and fixed gear. Disc brake. Mechanism for chain tension adjustment would be needed.

My thoughts were to mimic what motocross have for rear wheel mounting, which also includes the rear caliper mount any thoughts?

I'm new to mountain biking (have a motorcycle background) but I'm planning a build using the tangent-Dave system for the build.

The plan will be to have a thick section carbon fiber rear swing arm similar to what sportbikes have. If there are no suitable off the shelf parts from frame builder suppliers then the drop outs will be milled out of Al and bonded into the carbon.

Any links for existing dropouts or suggestions would be great!

Thanks.

Even though you are not using them as torque arms, the "torque arm" thread might have a few you might use as a starting point.

There may also be others in other torque arm threads

These guys might be worth a look for adjustable dropouts, we have used them for years - http://www.paragonmachineworks.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&searchstart=18&category=0006

Be careful bonding aluminum into carbon. Aluminum and carbon react to each other causing the binding area to weaken over time. You need to wrap the aluminum part in fiberglass first, then bond it into the carbon. That will isolate the aluminum from the carbon and eliminate the electrolysis issue.

I have these on my custom bike someone built for me years ago. They work really well. I was able to interchange between derailleur and single speed. It's was slick.
