I got a rear hub drive kit, 500W I've yet to install. It came with the different PAS sensors, one for the left and two slightly different versions for the right.

The left one appears to be far simpler to install, and I assume it integrates the two separate parts that the right side versions have.

Is there a functional difference between left and right side sensors?

I wonder why the redundancy in the kit. Are these so quirky that you need back-up? I wonder if I should install both sides so if one fails I could plug in the back-up.

Thoughts?

YOu can test that by supplying it with 5v, putting a voltmeter on the ground and signal wires, and rotating it with your fingers. Put a mark on it and start counting from there, when it rotates once then note the total number of changes of voltage you see. Do the same with the other sensors. If they all have the same number of changes, then they're all effectively the same, and wont' be different in operation as far as the controller / system is concerned.
