Hub motors and where they hide

Hey I'm attempting to find a place to buy just hub motors or complete wheels but not kits. I'm looking for something capable of handling 1000w at 48v on a 24" wheel. I already have a vesc I will be using to control the wheel. It will be powered on 12s for now but eventually up to 14s. Any links useful in the us specifically florida would be greatly appreciated

https://ebikes.ca/ - Top quality products with excellent customer service. Out of Vancouver, BC, Canada (West Coast)

https://www.leafbike.com/ - Leaf 1500W is a really good motor, excellent efficiency. Probably out of China

https://evfittinggreentime.aliexpress.com/store/313864 - I've had no problems with them. Out of China.

https://lunacycle.com/ - No hubs, out of California, USA

https://bmsbattery.com/ - Some users have had varying results with stuff being delivered that was different then what they ordered. Out of Asia, probably China.

https://ebikessf.com/ - San Fransisco

https://www.Yescomusa.com - Generic hub motors but only in kits, lots of had great success. Not sure if they have warehouses in USA or if they are strictly out of Asia probably China.

https://www.ebikekit.com/ - Type in ebikekit into ES search to find out more.

Thanks for all of the links. I'm increasingly concerned that the specs most of these show for a motor or wheel only there showing max speed and noise ratings but no pole pair information sensor information or even options for temp sensors...am I just asking to much? I understand that most of this stuff is marketed to people with little to no knowledge about motors and power and such but it seems like there is a lot of bloat information....

Ask the vendor for the info. If they can't tell you, go on to the next.

leafbike will sell you a hub motor wheel in any type of rim imaginable.
It will be wound too fast so you should ask for a winding that's sane ( 30mph on 48v ) unless you have a big honker of a battery.
..only their DDs are worth buying and you might not wanna screw with their subpar controllers. But the DDs are GOOD.

ebikes.ca probably has the widest selection of hubs of all vendors right now if you want variety and they're in your geographic range.

..two things complicate getting a motor in wheel.
There's a global rim shortage due to some crap going on in asia.
And also, everyone wants mid drives these days so vendors are catering to the mid drive market.
( hubs are still good in many situations )

So they are not as easy to ind as they were in the past.

So I'm definitely wanting to go dd. The idea of having engine breaking is something I love. I've seen a method of counting pole pares I'm about to try with one of my smaller motors in a moment so as lone as its truly dd I should be good I think

You keep saying that, your counting pole pairs to get a KT display for pas settings ?

Lots use regen for braking, saves a lot of money on brake pads.

Its required for correctly programming the vesc. It needs the information in order to calculate erpm. With that I can effectively set or know how fast the vesc can drive the motor. I believe speed display is possible with the vesc using that but its mostly for safety things and so the vesc knows whats going on

I don't know how myself, but can't you open the motor and count magnets to get the info you need?

I'm certain sure Grin Technology can supply you the info for any motor you order from them. That's ebikes.ca

I have an extra hub motor but it is for 26" tires not 24. In South Fla. You can try craigs list or other classified. I see lots of 1000 w
kits on ebay for 200 and they are new and complete.

Hub motors are not hiding. They are everywhere and one need to be blind to find them hard to find. The stock is low in America because of a bad year for imports, and a very good year for sales.

Most of us are buying them direct from Chinese manufacturers or resellers on aliexpress. Hub motors that are not made in China are extremely rare. My favorite supplier is cnqsmotor.com but for the power that you plan I would go with leafbike.com

Remember that some sites will have higher shipping prices then others.

Also remember that shipping a bare motor is cheaper then a laced hub motor, and if you get it laced they use inferior rims and spokes unless they specify otherwise.

FWIW, it's probably (a lot!) cheaper to buy a generic DD kit in the wheelsize you want, and just not use the controller it comes with (save it for a backup, sell it to finance some of the project cost, etc). You can use or sell the other stuff (throttle, brake levers, bags, ties, etc) that come with the kits.

Voilamart is a common "$200 Ebay kit" used here on ES, for instance, that uses a DD hubmotor capable of "1000w". Here's a 24" version I found in a few seconds on google:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/24-Electric-Bicycle-Motor-Conversion-Kit-Front-Wheel-E-Bike-Cycling-Hub-48V1000W/223609867323
$202.38with free shipping to the USA.

amberwolf, how does the Voilmart compare to Nine Continents or Aotema?

I have no direct experience, but based on posts here on ES by those that have, it's just another 9C DD hubmotor clone, so is likely to be the same low quality (thus completely typical of ebike motors/etc in general). I would bet that you could use the 9C 280x series in the ebikes.ca simulator to guesstimate what the Voilamart (and similar) motors can do. ;)

If you want specs, Grin at ebikes.ca is your only option. Luckily, they are excellent.

Q's Motor lists all specs certainly. I like them. You can find them.

Or you can ask here. These people know everything. Someone here knows the answer.

Usually 23 or 16. Lol. Pretty much it.
