Hi Guys

So i am still needing to purchase the correct chainring and buzz bars and just need your advice on what steps I need to
1. how do I go about ensuring a specific chainring size will fit my bike, 38T, 40T, 42T? i am not looking to go high speed, anything comfortable around 30-40km/h
currently it has a 26t and 36t i believe(need to go back and check again)
2. I currently have 2x11 gears, how do i ensure which chainring will line up with my 11 gears in the rear when it becomes 1x11.
3. which buzz bars do i choose and why would i choose over a 160mm vs 170mm, eg ones from lekkie

Thanks in advance

BCD is the biggest thing, where the chain ring bolts onto the crank.
Next is if you go to big a chain ring you might hit the frame.
I find having 1x7 gears is plenty for cruising around with the occasional steep hill, the biggest thing is having enough power and helping out the best you can with a 22/36 gear to help climb. The optimal hill climbing for power efficiency and heat is not blasting up the hill the fastest you can though that is a lot of fun and who really likes pedaling up hills anywho

What motor system are you using?

It's a bbshd that I will be using from lunacycle

Ya ok, I'm thinking of going 40T or 42T I don't need crazy speed, don't know how well the chain line would be with a 38T from lekkie

It's going on a merida big seven

42T is a good compromise for climbing and cruising with your bike's 11-36 cassette, and either the stock Bafang, Lekkie, or Luna Eclipse rings will give you good chainline in that size. Smaller than that, and the chainline shifts dramatically outwards so your low gears won't work right.

If it were my bike, I'd adjust the rear derailleur to lock out the 11 tooth sprocket, because it will wreck your drivetrain quickly if you use it.

If you don't know which Buzz Bars cranks to use, use the stock cranks. If it bothers you that your feet are so far apart, get some unicycle cranks with less offset. The Lekkie cranks are more about bling than anything else.

The shorter the cranks, the faster you can spin them comfortably. This will help you keep up with the motor which probably goes faster than you would otherwise pedal. I switched my BBS02's cranks from the stock 170mm offset ones to narrow 152mm unicycle cranks.

Thank you for the info, really helps with my last piece of gear I need for my built.

Just to confirm are these the correct crank you linked above?( This is the au version of the site you linked I believe)

The url you linked earlier seems to go to a 404 page

Thanks

Those are the ones. Steel, $20/pair. Nice and square to keep your feet as narrowly spaced as possible over that big wide motor.

Nothing wrong with the fancy expensive aluminum ones, but they don't do anything better than the cheap steel ones. Steel cranks stay on the spindle better, too.
