Does anyone make "small" 52v batteries?

I searched, but most threads are old or show items no longer made/out of stock.

I am putting a BBSHD on an older Kona Dawg Supreme. Its the one with the bent top tube. I'm looking for a 52v battery.
I've made "models" of most shark and triangle packs and it looks like they won't fit.

There were threads about the em3ev small triangle battery which seems like it would fit but looks to be out of production.

I pedal and won't be taking real long rides so I don't need huge capacity. A triangle or shark pack with about 10ah would be all I need. Can anyone recommend such a product that is currently in stock?

Thanks.

You might consider the EGO lawn tool batteries. They have a high-amp 7.5-Ah pack. They are labeled "56V", but they are definitely 14S / 52V nominal.

Seems to me that you would buy yourself a lot more options if you also looked at 48V batteries. Given that the BBSHD lets you gear up or down as you wish, I don't know what relevant drawback there could be.

I have been using the EGO 5 Ah battery for my TSDZ2 and those work fine. I knew they had 7.5s but I just went to check prices and I see they now they also have 10 Ah packs.

I think I read that people were having firmware issues if their BBSHD was setup for 52v batteries and they used 48v batteries? Has this been fixed with current production? I'm no expert in this area and "flashing firmware fixes" (?) didn't sound like fun.

After some more modeling, I may be able to fit something like a 52v 13ah "shark" type battery - the ones only 4.3" high. It depends on how much "slant" the case has on each end. These come with a 30a BMS. I think the max continuous draw the BBSHD pulls is 30a, if I'm not constantly WOT will that be ok?

The other option is something like the Dewalt Flexvolt 12ah. I can have it here tomorrow from amazon. I see there are "knock-off" versions as well.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

It's not just that it needs to fit in the installed position. Also make sure you include the couple inches it needs to slide on and off. That was enough to make a shark not work on one of my bikes.

Yes, I am taking that into account with my "modeling".

Its difficult because the pictures on websites include the HxWxL, but not the measurements of the "slanted" top corners which could allow it to fit. But with a "no return" policy for many, its a pricey gamble.

I'm researching the 12ah tool battery option currently.

It looks like this one would be a good option. 52v 14ah with Samsung cells with 30a BMS for $400 plus tax.

Is there a more reputable builder you guys know of with something similar in stock?

Thanks guys.

If you're worried about frame clearance, bafang usa direct has a pdf you can print out to check the sizing:

Are they reputable? Idk but I was 50-50 between them and Luna when I ordered my BBS02 kit. Went with Luna primarily because they offered a 30t chainring and a better deal on the 'smart' charger. IIRC bafang direct had either a 90 day or 1 year warranty where it was as is with Luna...

BBSHD uses 30 amps or more of current.

Needing high power from small ah batteries is what made a lot of us run RC lipo batteries ten years ago. You can get 40 amps from a 5 ah size.

Its still a viable solution, but one requiring much more care from the user, because of the fire hazard, and the risk of ruining batteries over charging, or over discharging them.

for the price I'd buy one of his bigger batteries that fit like 12 ah

Those are cool little batteries! Small and idea for keeping the weight down.

Gotta love all the disclaimers like: ONLY CHARGE THIS BATTERY IN A PLACE WHERE YOU WOULDN’T MIND STARTING A FIRE. I know, good practice, but it sounds like something lost in translation here.

Right,
Sounds real promising lol

Makes you wonder if that great looking little pack is even legal to be shipped in the US.

I charged my battery where you would not start a fire. I thought the bms made it safe. My dangerous lipos got charged in my fireplace. But I thought it was safe to charge the bms equipped 18650 packs in the garage. P2110075.JPG

I have a small (52V, 4ah) battery, (I think) from the same company. It is charged outside in the middle of my patio and kept in a (hopefully) similarly safe location. It seems to have been manufactured well and functions well when I don't need much "gas in the tank". Fits nicely in a seat bag for a relatively stealthy system.
