Nice Riide writeup in E&E mag ("Environment & Energy Publishing (E&E) is the leading source for comprehensive, daily coverage of environmental and energy policy and markets.

E&E's five daily online publications are considered "must-reads" by people who track and influence energy, environmental and climate policy.)

Other stuff "ebike positive" as well. Here:

Some others may cast dispersions, and the ES Alt Reality is fabulous for DIY folks, but maybe many here have no thoughs about turning a DIY thingee design into BIG BUSINESS.

35lbs is pretty light.

Seems to be the best thing they have going. Those 340 Wh are decent for a light bike.

Interesting "prototype":

Well they got their 50k, although the video just made me feel a bit sick. I'm not 17 anymore. You can't sell me an american dream.

I guess now they have some money they can buy some gears for it. Then it can actually be pedaled at the speeds they claim possible.

To help Riide appeal to a broader audience, Wason and Stefanis spent 18 months developing a “better, sleeker” prototype. They hid the battery inside the frame, so it doesn’t look weird. They gave it regenerative braking, which helps extend the range. They made it single-speed to reduce maintenance headaches.
Hmmm, so batteries look weird and that's the reason eBikes have not appealed to a broader audience? There's one thing I do like about the Riide initiative, that its a local to DC Kickstarter selling a smallish number of bikes, and they made their quota. That's a business model that can be replicated in every city and its the social networking approach that has potential in reaching that broader audience.

That is the thought behind helping to kick-start uphill racing EVents?
(... and the conversion kit being offered by Phoenix Ebike Promotions.)

Local specialization makes sense. This is kind of like a group buy.

With caveat re placement (author?):
"one of The Washington Post’s MisFits since the column began in 2007. Read it every week in the Wellness section or Lean & Fit e-newsletter for the latest on the area exercise scene. Her day job is editing the Fit section of Express, which is where you’ll also find her weekly transit column, DC Rider.

So. Exercise "scene". And a "misfit", "lean & fit". Some might wonder if that whole silly "saving TONS of money - and time" might not "soak in" to Readership. (Apart from that whole exercise, warmth, etc. stuff.)

There is a review on it now. It's a very nice bike, but $1500 would be justifiable for the base version. It's missing gears, PAS, LCD and battery capacity. Hopefully in future reversions, we will get to see more. The bike certainly seems promising.

Read about from an article in Australia (!):

Mobike also originates in China while Riide is reportedly an offshoot of an electric bike hire company from the United States.

Wow. What a cooincidence! I just saw one the other day. The geometry looked much more bicycle like versus the original posts pics. And the rear motor was a bit more stealthy (smaller). I'm at the point where I've seen enough production Ebikes rolling around that it no longer strikes that itch for me to get a closer inspection.
