My generic old bicycle rack needs replacement. Any advice for a sturdy hitch mounted rack capable of carrying ebikes?

Yes, if you are not into metal fabrication, go to someone who is. I have built 3 different ones, I work with steel all the time, but really it is not rocket science! One for the Prius, one for my RAV4 and Dodge flatbed, and a third one for the rear of my crane. Material cost for each was less then 20 bucks, some thin wall 2" square tube, so it would slip into the existing receiver hitch, and some small thin wall 1" tubing for the rest. A few straps and plastic quick snap type latches and I have a rack that is if anything overbuilt. Any of my bikes mount up to any of the racks in less then a minute. Look around for some small welding shop, and maybe take some pictures of store bought type racks to give the guy some idea. I'll try and remember to take a few pictures tomorrow when out in the shop, to show how simple they can be, while still being more then strong enough.

I call this combo, the gnarly BBSHD fat bike, usually dirty as hell, and the sleek Plugin Prius "Beauty and the Beast."

I don't have any experience myself, but do any of these threads have useful info for you?

Or do any of the options from your original threads apply?

I have the Saris super clamp. It's great, holds two bikes up to 60 pounds each. Works with any frame design because it only touches the wheels not the frame. Only weighs about 30 pounds so it goes on and off no sweat, just one bolt. And it works with road bikes, fat bikes, and anything in between. And the best part, it takes all of 20 seconds to put a bike on or off the rack!

I have two ebikes. The "assist" bike I have tried to keep lite, but the other one as time went by and I added more batteries and bigger motors, has grown quite heavy. I really don't care about the weight when riding it as I don't pedal it much anymore, but now I can no longer use the "hanger" type rack. If I only try and carry it, I'm not exceeding the weight limit, but I can longer lift it and align everything by myself.
The above rack looks like a good solution, but I really don't see me spending over $400 for a rack.
I'm looking at a receiver mounted "basket" type or maybe even one designed for a sm motorcycle. The type with either a tilt-down feature or a loading ramp.

motomech, it sounds like we could use one of these:

If Grandma and Grandpa can do it, it must be easy!
