I am looking at developing an electric turbo-pump to be used for a LOx-Methane rocket engine in development. I was looking at this motor (or something similar) https://alienpowersystem.com/shop/brushless-motors/58mm/5850-inrunner-brushless-motor-840kv-12000w/ and was wondering if there are any suitable ESC's on the market to drive this motor at roughly 30kRPM with a power output of around 5kW or if I would have to design my own for this purpose. I know that this high speed will require a high speed switching controller and hence high power losses but was wondering if there was already anything on the market that would meet my needs

Ok just looking t the problem for the moment.

How do you plan to drive it?

60v ( 14s) max motor. Itsa 5850.

840Kv 12Kw. 200A

@ 840 Kv. @ 36v is 10s..or 30208 rpm. ... You would have to feed a little more than that with a full charge. Or go 12 or 14s and gear down ........ Or use some other kind of electric motor wizardry.

Also, given all the applications in the world, 30K rpm isnt out of the question, at all. I run Heli motors that are on 14s and 4541, almost the size of a can of soda, a little smaller, but still in the 25krpm range often.

Spec:

MOTOR: 5850
KV: 840
POWER: 6000W const. – 12000w Max
WIRE WINDS: 4Y
MAX AMP: 200A
ESC: 200/250A
MAX VOLT: 60v
NO LOAD CURRENT: 4,1
SIZE: 58 x 92
WEIGHT . 998g
SHAFT :8mm

If you want a motor in the 12Kw range that isnt on backorder maybe look at theese? Smaller, lighter, more expensive. What is the pump speed?

And they're terrible.

Yeah get a good Scorp, Hobbywing 200A V4 or VESC... or.. Waitamin.

Is this what you are really trying to do?

You mean ....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric-pump-fed_engine..

NOt a turbo... ( even though there is a "turbine" or two for the pumping.... .... )

Wut ta hill is a electric turbopump..... Never heard of a electric turbo except eBay spam..

Turbo uses exhaust traditionally in airplanes to normalize intake MAP for the MEP.....at altitude... or racey cars and trucks.....

So you need a 3-4Hp centrifugal fuel pump. Easy.

Whats the RPM for the pump , the displacement, and the flow requirements?
