Hi guys

I have a stealth bomber I have stripped down the motor to replace the bearings and have noticed the wiring is looking more than a little sorry for itself

Can I sleeve over each wire with heat shrink or do I have to Re solder and if I do do I have to Re solder do I have to go to the motor connector or could I cut the wires and solder to each wire and then heat sleeve over the top

I assume this is due to the heat of the motor

If the insulation is that badly aged/damaged, it is probably like that along it's entire length. My guess is it's teflon insulation, which ages poorly, especially the cheap stuff.

Because anywhere the insulation is damaged there is a chance of shorting between phases, whcih usually results in controller destruction and can send you flying if the wheel locks up from that, I would recommend replacing that wire everywhere it exists on the bike, with new wire (preferably with a different type of insulation since this one hasn't done very well in your environment).

Usually it would be all the way from the motor windings inside the motor up to the controller/motor connector, and may also be the same wire from that connector to inside the controller.

There is always a risk of damaging other things during this kind of repair, so take that into consideration when deciding which way to go (resleeving or replacing).
