Building a 1988 KDX as a project motorcycle using a Buick Lacrosse 2012 e-assist moto-alternator for the motor. Should I go gen 1 over gen 2? seeking to achieve 15+ horsepower, anyone having made this mod please share your build specs

Please go Gen2, Gen1 is more like an alternator than a full sized motor
Gen2 is a 115V induction motor, it will be better

Interesting I would have thought the PM rotor would be the way to go along with it being wound as (?)36 volt making it easier to gain rpm through voltage change... am I off in my thinking? In what ways are they better and would the controllers be cheaper for the A/C gen2? PS thanks for the advice

I did a while back, re-read it I am wondering if it is a claw style rotor with magnets assisting a wound rotor... the only style I had seen disassembled is the gen2 versions

The problem with the Gen1 versus Gen2 is: Gen1 is still a claw-pole alternator with a wound rotor and a brush/slip ring assembly for feeding power to the rotor, and subject to the same efficiency problems as the standard alternators that people usually get 1500W controllers, and the maximum that i saw them using (with Cycle Analysts) was 100A, both at 36V (youtuber Fixitmoditbreakit) and 48V (youtuber Austiwawa), albeit with a tad more efficiency because of the magnet help on the rotor, so the magnetic flux will also be bigger and give a bit more torque, while the Gen2 is a full ACIM power unit, with 115V @ Star and 67V @ Delta, following info that i saw here in ES and ElMoto forums.

I managed to drive Lacrosse motor with resolver control using 93V battery here.

Motor is 8pole with 2pole resolver (not 4pole as i originaly thought).
When set up to small rpm it becomes quite snappy and quickly reaches full rpm. This is really full torque control and speed limit at the end. I need to load it somehow... Maybe a belt drive to HSG motor?
I did use Volt inverter which is overkill. But i have here Honda IMA inverter which would be a nice package for a motorcycle or 3cycle that i have planned...
 
Check out kia/hyundia hybrid alternators on ebay for less than 100 to your door all day and they are good for 20kw and watercooled.
