If you designed it from scratch, could a steel rim itself be used as the magnet back iron?
I’m talking about a motorcycle type rim, and placing the magnets on the flat centre channel (facing the hub). Obviously the supports would need to be placed on the sides, not the centre.
Is there any reason this wouldn’t work in theory? The magnet backing doesn’t NEED to be a totally isolated ring, does it? Or would the rim’s overall shape actually mess with it magnetically? Any fatal flaws I’m missing?
