Inside a Hitachi 6-pack IGBT

Took apart my Spark EV inverter and apparently you can take a peek at the bare die's of the device.
I guess it looks like 12 because of the reverse recovery diodes.
It's quite pretty so I thought I'd share.

wow !.....do they really run stuff like that , open (unpotted) in a commercial device ?

Well, it is actually potted with this space age gel stuff. It's super clear and I didn't even notice it. And there's a plastic cover that I popped off the IGBT module to take the pic.... it's further shielded and then sealed in the inverter case.

I had to desolder the driver board just to get to the igbt, it's soldered right to the board.
