NEW Hailong-3 48v 17.5 Ah the big Shark pack

Post by EMPowered » Jan 10 2017 3:54am

Check out the Shark pack's big brother, the Hailong-3. Now bigger and better than ever, yet still small enough to fit in more bikes than any other 17.5 Ah battery. Now comes with a power switch, a USB 2.0 port, and a more rugged mount than it's little brother the Hailong-1 aka the Shark pack. Check out EMPowered Cycles for more information and dimensions of this new bolt on ready e-bike battery. $579.99

So they're free?

Since no price was posted per the rules, we have to assume they must be the best giveaway ever. ;)

Just a hint, but if you are getting lithium batteries imported with the 3-pin XLR plug like this, have them wire up a 10K NTC thermistor between pins 2 (gnd) and 3 (normally not connected) of the 3-pin charge port on all these packs, just like they used to do with all the NiCad and NiMH batteries. Then if you hook up a Satiator it will automatically detect this and display the internal cell temprature on the Satiator screen, and in future versions of the Satiator firmware you'll be able to automatically limit the charging when appropriate. So that the charge rate could be automatically reduced at cold temperatures to prevent plating, and be cutoff completely at more extreme temps where charging isn't safe.
Previously competed in the Suntrip race on a back to back tandem solar powered row/cycle trike. 550 watt solar roof, dual Grin All Axle hub motors, dual Phaserunner controllers, 12 LiGo batteries, and a whole wack of gear.

Now back in Vancouver learning to be a dad with my Big Dummy Frame (yes This One, thanks ES!) with GMAC 10T rear hub motor, Phaserunner controller, and 52V 19Ah EM3EV pack

Amberwolf- thanks for all your volunteer moderating of this forum!

Justin- thank you for pointing out the compatibility of the XLR plug with the Satiator and for the info about the 10K NTC Thermister between pins 2 and 3. My packs are wired the same so this can easily be done before shipping out. If anyone is interested in that option please let me know. I don't have any of these resistors available as of now, but will source some. The temp sensing feature available in future versions of firmware is a cool feature, thanks for always coming up with new improvements and being such an innovator!

Is it possible to connect my old hailong battery case to the new base or visa versa?

The Hailong-3 uses a different mount and cannot swap with the hailong-1 mount.

The packs have Panasonic GA cells.
