Last fall I finally put together this little outboard project I intend to use on my Hobie tandem island and small dinghies. The premise was simple: utilize my existing e-bike batteries to power me on the water. I wanted to also play around with creating youtube content for some of my projects. My video editing skills are rudimentary and still in development. I figure I have to start somewhere and why not start document what I am doing.

If you can print them look at a higher aspect propeller using swept blades.

Higher aspect propellers seems to be what torqueedo is using for their outboards. Printing them would be a challenge without supports and some sanding. Perhaps I could print the "hub" of the propeller which would print easily in a vertical orientation, and then print blades standing up right as well before assembling the parts. Perhaps something like
this but instead of a hinge pin have a channel for the blades to slot in to.
I prefer prints that are one shot with minimal processing but perhaps a hub and blade system would offer more room for dialing in blade shapes.

Great project. I'll follow your findings regarding the props. I just bought a 24V (brushed) trolling motor that I intend to run from my 14S (52v) ebike battery. A PWM controller with a max setting of 50% will hopefully work in running the motor without overheating it. But using it on a small and light boat will probably mean that the standard trolling prop is not "agressive" enough to reach a top speed that the power of the motor should be capable of. I have much to learn so please update this thread with your findings.
Kind regards,

A pretty nice prop tool that you can get 3D models out of. Doesn’t work properly on a phone or a tablet but does work well on a computer.
There are actually two versions, one is for designing (and modeling) the other is for just creating prop from your dimensions. Needs some knowledge but not too crazy.

The series they use doesn’t do very slim (low area ratio) which would be ideal in low power setups seeking max efficiency. Many use model airplane props in pedal boats and other similar ones. They are very efficient in applications where they can handle the forces. Cheap too.
