Hello all
Looking for some experience and knowledge here and appreciate any reply.
I have a small sailboat with a center channel space in bow for a paddle wheel prop. My goal is to put an electric motor here for low speed auxiliary thrust. I would like it to recapture energy when under sail or engine power.
My previous attempt to wire an old trolling motor went up in smoke when i over revved it running outboard petrol motor at speed.
Now i have an old three phase AC condensor fan motor, and a Chevy 100amp alternator in my parts shed.
From whatvl read both can be converted to motors, but the AC fan is improbable as a generator.
What do i need to know about using an alternator to create thrust and also generate power. I am running on a single 12v deep cycle Lead Acid battery. I would like to have control over maybe three speeds (have a left over speed controller
How far fetched is thisor is it doable?
