SW/TCH E-Mobility (presumably pronounced “switch”) is a new electric transportation company based around multiple modes of EV commuting. The company is planning to offer NYC’s first electric-powered ferry combined with a seamlessly integrated e-commuting fleet onshore.
NYC’s first electric ferry

Their flagship e-ferry will be an innovative 150-passenger battery-powered ferry used to connect Williamsburg with the East side of Manhattan. The electric ferry will give SW/TCH members a way to beat the L-train shutdown while enjoying a comfortable, stylish, and emission free commute across the East River.

The SW/TCH beta phase will launch when the e-ferry hits the water in 2019. The vessel concept and design are complete. Construction of the e-ferry is slated to begin before the end of 2018 with a build time of approximately one year. Mobile app development will start in coordination with e-ferry construction. SW/TCH is working with capable partners and moving fast to make the e-mobility service a reality. As development continues, SW/TCH is committed to providing regular project updates.

Yeah, short haul ferries are sort of a no-brainer for electrification. Given that they have to remain docked for long enough to pick up and discharge passengers - and given that their planned route is less than a mile - plenty of time for charging.

^^ Hehe... That's watt *I* thought... near 20 years ago, where "public transit" included a small ferry run by a local yachet club (you know, the folks watt slap tons of lead on the bottom of a sailboat then spend lots of money to "make it go fast"?)

To go ONE lousy nautical mile across a small harbour w/a 6kt speed limit... and with no serious hills to speak of... hehe

Old club "tender" (ferry w/blue hull) alongside the Club in this pic:

... and watt did "senior" Members decide? ... to have a new diseasal-powered boat commissioned...

... our brains were on totally different wavelengths:

PS... the Norwegians are now building a fleet of electric ferryboats:

... AND BTW... report from March this year:

A new fleet of all-electric ferries with massive battery packs is going into production:
https://electrek.co/2018/03/05/all-electric-ferries-battery-packs/

Includes:
The Havyard shipyard announced that it received a contract to build seven battery-powered ferries for Fjord1, Norwegian transport conglomerate.

The news comes after the operators of the first all-electric ferry in Norway, the ‘Ampere’, reported some impressive statistics after operating the ship for over 2 years.

They claim that the all-electric ferry cuts emissions by 95% and costs by 80%.
