A new player in the game of Hydrogen storage without the high pressure or low temperature complications...
Plasma Kinetics will enter commercial markets with a technology which rapidly collects and safely stores hydrogen. This follow-on technology, from a U.S. Department of Defense application, captures hydrogen, stores it for long periods, and releases it for stationary and transportation applications.

Plasma Kinetics proprietary nanophotonic material absorbs hydrogen at standard atmospheric pressure and temperature. The material absorbs metric tons of hydrogen in minutes. Hydrogen is released by controlled light at 99.99+% purity.

Plasma Kinetics employs a layered nanophotonic structure with proprietary shape memory alloy that interacts with light. Individual layers are only angstroms thick, and nanolithography provides surface structures which support release of hydrogen with light.

Nice to avoid all the issues, and risks with Hydrogen gas storage, but this seems to introduce a new level complications.!

Looks like bullshit.

Do they have anything other then a 3D render? They mention they have 5 patents, but don't say what they are. Say they were derived from some sort of defense program, but doesn't mention what that was.

Tried to find more articles on the subject. The whole thing sounds like somebody has some experience doing some contracting work with the government in the past and has decided to has build a company to specifically milk 'green energy' initiatives. Chances of this ever seeing the light of day is extremely low as far as I can tell.

This:
"Plasma Kinetics employs a layered nanophotonic structure with proprietary shape memory alloy that interacts with light"
My BS radar is dinging off the chart! Light controlled release of H2 (stored at stp)

Haha people complain about fracking just try to imagine what they are proposing. God they really need to make one that absorbs "metric tons" of CO2 in minutes. They don't mention the energy required or where the equipment is located.

Air contains 0.00005% Hydrogen so finding metric tons in minutes from air at sea level would be a miracle and HUGELY windy. I guess it would probably need a hurricane/typhoon and a gigantic power supply. Structurally speaking their intake would need to withstand an assault from the elements that would knock most bunkers into next week. Also where would the employees park?..

Sounds like a bit of a FUD from the fossil fuel lobby to be honest. Am I being cynical?

Good idea, but people have been working on this for 40 years or so. It's a fairly common solution.

Ford have both hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and H2ICE (hydrogen internal combustion engine)
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars
Most of the big auto makers have tried for years to develop a practical hydrogen fueled ICE.
BMW, Merc, Honda, Toyota, etc, have all put $x billions into that idea and given up.
There are just so many technical problems, not least being emissions (Nox) and low power output.
Even if they can solve those issues, and the Hydrogen storage / distribution,.. it will still be a very inefficient use of energy compared to direct battery EV systems

Hillhater have you played with any fuel cells?

Have been wanting to but the price does not seem to be moving. $3k-$4k for 100w seems high. Was thinking that a person should play with hydrogen storage first. A 300w/h fuel cell would be great for a bike if the storage was not to big/heavy.
