Overvolting 24V hub controller.

Any one knows if this oryginally rated to 24V controller can be run with 36V battery, so actually if it can be safely used up to 42V (fully charged 36V battery) I cannot open it to check capacitors.
Controller comes from Schwinn ebike running at 24V system.

I'm surprised no one has answered you yet. I'm not really qualified to answer the question, so take this with a few grains of salt.

Most electronics can handle more than they are rated for, but how much more and for how long is always in question. If you were planning to ride up steep hills or even run full throttle for long distances, I'd venture to say that failure will occur before long. And although the damage would likely only occur to the controller, there are no guarantees on that.

Considering what you can buy a properly rated controller for, my intuition tells me no, it would not be "safe," it might work but it would be risky.

Low powered mass market controllers like that are so cheap that the best way to find out is to try it. If it pops, then you know, and you get another one. But it's a potted controller, so nobody can see any of the components to make an educated guess about it.
