I recently purchased a second hand Power In Motion conversion kit. Crystalyte 408, JNY-3620 controller, Power In Motion 36v 10.5ah battery.

It was installed on a bike and I've since removed it.

The best way for me to describe the issue would be that the motor is stuttering.... audibly, it's a cross between a cats purr and the scene from Silence of the Lambs when Hannibal makes that "thth-thth-thth" noise. (Sorry, horrible reference but it's all I've got.) Physically, you can just tell it's struggling and you can feel the on-off pulsation feeling.

I just cleaned the connections and it does seem better but if I apply any tension (simulating a rim brake) it shudders and stops. Also, and this may be a bad connection, but it doesn't respond each time to the throttle input.

I'm a professional bicycle mechanic but I know very very little about electronics.

Two YouTube video uploaded. The first is audio only >>> https://youtu.be/HYkWoIAIqCk >>>The second has visuals but in both cases I was unable to isolate the sounds against the freewheel. >>> https://youtu.be/Aoj5BEoSUyg

Any suggestions? Thank you all. Mike.

Open up the cover and take a sniff, you might have cooked it or bought it cooked.

Thanks for the response. Are there tutorials / instructions on opening these up? What am I expecting to smell? Popcorn? Burnt toast?

If it is cooked are there possibilities to have it rebuilt?

Is there a special freewheel removal tool required? (I haven't looked closely yet.)
