Grease for Bafang BBS01 available in Australia

I have read numerous recommendations for Mobilgrease 28 or Mobil SHC100 to lubricate Bafang mid-drive motors. Neither of these are locally available in Australia and with shipping from the US, they are very expensive.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a suitable grease that can be purchased in Australia?

Hi electric_nz, thanks for responding.

All I have found is an eBay seller who offers 5ml syringes full of Mobilgrease 28 or Mobilith SHC 100 for AU$15-16 each. I was hoping to buy a cartridge or something bigger than 5ml.

Can you provide a link to where is it available in NZ, or tell me what kind of store you buy it from?

You need to find airplane lube for that stuff, any good quality grease that can stand the heat will do. I bought some good stuff from the local auto parts store. Works fine! Its not until you get into high speed, specialty gears that you start needing that specialty grease.

I don’t have a BBS01 but I use the following two greases on a TSDZ2 which I think has a similar gearing system to the Bafang. I also had trouble finding the Mobil greases here in Brisbane, so this is what I’ve found that seems to work.

Inox MX-6 on the nylon gear. It should be safe and not degrade plastic and is available from Jaycar.

Nulon L80 on the big gear. Get it from Supercheap auto.

Could probably get away with the MX-6 for all of it, but the L80 is much cheaper.

This sounds promising. According to famichiki "...the manufacturer has confirmed it's safe for plastic gears"

And Get Tools Direct sells a 450g cartridge for $30.50 + $8.00 for shipping.

Next time I re-grease I might try MX6 for everything. Thanks - I hadn’t found large quantities for a cheap price.

I use Aeroshell Grease 22 for my BBSHD. I don't know if its any cheaper than the other high end stuff, but that tube will last you a long time! I've used it for all kinds of stuff but it's literally made for applications like these.
Found some au shop that sells it. There might be cheaper sources out there but 30AUD seems about right for that kind of grease.

I'd recommend that you put the contents of that tube into some airtight jar, that makes it much easier to scoop out.

I would just grab some lithium grease from a local hardware or auto parts store. I considered ordering Mobil 28 but then I realized my BBS02 is not a turbine powered helicopter.

This is what I used...5 bucks/tube at the local wally world.

Certain kinds are grease get recommended because the BBSxx motors got a nylon gear that you may want to grease, and those won't degrade the nylon. Whatever grease you BBSxx owners decide to get, make sure that the manufacturer state what it's for and that it would work with the materials that might come into contact with that grease.
Most of the brand greases like AeroSheel or MobilGrease clearly state what you can and can't use them for, that's why they're the ones people recommend.

Turbine powered helicopter

Plus it aint cheap
Plus it aint easy to find. I mean you got one person on ebay selling it in ziplock bags. And you cant find the stuff locally because they dont sell it in small tubes (cucumber/banana/2 soda cans size small).

To be fair I didn't actually read the SDS before putting red n tacky in my BBS02, I just saw a couple posts from others who used it and there seemed to be a consensus that it was OK.

I just looked up the SDS and as far as can tell there's nothing that would interfere with the nylon gear (page 6 for reactivity).
