Question about switch behind XT60

Hello all, new here and about to start my first build.

Question - Why not put a toggle switch behind the XT60 battery connector?

I read all the time about sparks plugging in the XT60 and haven't seen any build or mention of installing a toggle to prevent this.

Am I missing something?

Yes, you can do that if the switch has contacts sufficient to handle the inrush current. :thumb:

I think they also sell an XT connector with built in resistor for spark protection?

I did that and used a Marine DC switch for the purpose.

I had XT90's with spark prevention, but they were too big when using 4AH and 6AH packs, so I migrated to XT60's. Now I use XT60's on all my batteries.

Yes, sometimes the connectors darken from all the popping.Except for the few times I wired an XT60 backwards (KAPOW), I've not yet had a connector fail.

The same spark occurs whether it's at the plug or inside a switch. So choose for yourself: do you want to erode a plug or a switch? You might have reasons to prefer one or the other.

Yes, I would rather contain the spark in a switch than have it in the open air. Ultimately it's small potatoes I guess.
