I was gifted an electric scooter (E Rider) from an AEVA member, it just needed new batteries.
Steering away from LiFePO4, I started snooping around on AliBaba and was relieved to learn that China has stepped up the LiPo game. Settled on the 50Ah LiPo slab from a company that has 3 names. StarMax, szxhbattery and Hongyu energy.

$20USD each for 100x plus shipping. $35 AUD each.
The scoot has a battery box that is 21cm x 21cm x 70cm and a 6kW QS hub motor.
I got rid of the original 72v crap ctlr and charger and slipped an old Kelly 144v 200A in there for 27kW of tarmac shredding grunt.
Going for 175v. I could almost fit 84 cells entirely in the box for 42s 2p and 67kg. Thats a staggering 17.5 kWh !!!!!!!!!! :bolt:
This thing will have over 200km range.

Do you have the gear to to capacity and load testing? See how they balance?
 
Does anybody have any experience with this type of cell. Are they good quality.
Im going to be clamping the tabs together the same way Ive built most of my eFXC packs.
The tabs are 50mm wide ! might have to drill the tabs and make shorter clamps and busars.
I heard something about potting ... Chris Jones ?

Any chance these are the LG cells as used in the Bolt, Kona, etc ? :shock:

Very similar dimentions, though the Bolt cells are rated at 60+ Ah
It might explain the low cost :wink:

I almost went for the 48Ah cause they are 5C.
The 63Ah cell at 42s 2p would be 22 kWh !!!!!!!!! but 75kg
 
Recommend spot welding those tabs if you can manage it. Whatever you do, please do not attempt to solder them unless you are very familiar with soldering bare aluminum tabs. I tried it with 3 lifepo4 pouch cells and totally screwed them up.

So how do you go about balancing a 42s pack? The only way I know would be to series connect 3 of those 5a 14s active balancers from feebay or aliexpress, but that would be a lot of wiring.

here ya go....6500 racing kilometres of clamped tabs. Cant beat simple.
Might be using Batrium longmon that way I can use my 4kW Elcon from the race bike

Thats the race bike pack from a few years back made with 4Ah YGS cells.
It was only 8kWh and still weighed 65kg
The 50Ah cells havnt even been shipped yet.
I dont think they are "LG" cells anyway. Theres lots of factories over there.
 
Rear brake line is piggy backed onto front brake master cylinder so both front and rear brakes are operated by one lever.
Left master cylinder has a 150 psi 5v pressure transducer screwed into it to modulate the regen in the Kelly.
The cylinder needs 2 switches, one for brake light and one to engage the regen function in the kelly.

What kind of signal is needed for modulating regen?
I would like to do that, too, for my build...
Or does my Kelly KLS7245N not support this??

Isnt it possible to use the brake light switch for both, by just connecting 2 cables??

Same signal as the throttle 0-5v
I dont know if the regen switch signal is 5v or 12v but there is a brk switch positive wire in the harness and you are supposed to just use one of the return neg wires to complete the signal.
Your KLS will definitely have a regen analog function.
Brown wire pin 2 in the 91Y plug. You will have to assign that wire to regen in config. Shares with boost function which you dont need. But I dont think you have to switch regen on to use it.
The race bike had this regen transducer for 6 years and no rear discs brake.

Been 2 weeks since I ordered the LiPo cells and according to the shipping site they havnt been picked up from the factory yet.
Apparently the factory area has been hit by multiple typhoons so they will be delayed. Thought I got scammed, they wouldn answer emails.

Welcome to the club.
I have ordered (and paid) a 72V battery in August, and it still didnt arrive.
When I called UPS to ask about the tracking number they gave me, they told me this parcel has been announced in August, but still hasnt been sent.
But in contrast to you, the Chinese supplier DOES reply to emails, and tells fantastic stories - once the parcel ist stuck in Belarus, then it is in Holland, then again in Poland, and so on.

Payment was made with Paypal, so I think soon I will demand a payback...
 
Found weather history site for Shenzen and since the 23rd Sep there have been no "Typhoons"

Its looking better. The original tracking site only showed updates after clearing AU customs so didnt show anything.
They gave me a different tracking web site that has current info which shows the shipment has been picked up and is on this ship, Irenes Wave. They say it will arrive in AU customs on 28 AUG

Hmm, ? Probably not easy to airfreight a large quantity of lipo by air these days !
And it is a bad time to be shipping anything generally, as the sea freight industry is in turmoil at some key ports, shortages of containers, port labour (Covid) , etc etc.
Fingers crossed your shipment doesnt have to visit any of those bottled up ports. :thumb:

Ship Finder. Irenes Wave is off the east coast of Australia. Due to arrive in Melbourne on 17 Oct.
Taking 13 days to get from Shenzhen to Melbourne with 1 day stop in Taiwan. So no holdups for this route and doing 19.3 knots
