Here is what I think I know:
Photos need to be resized to 800 pixels wide, less that 512kb.
One needs a program to do this.
Only download a program direct from the owner, linking somewere else to get the download are for scams. (uniblue)
My photo(s) from SD card uploaded to computer are 1.28mb, 3072 X 2304.

Questions :
Is there a photo resize program that only does resize?
Is it in plain English, not in engineer speak or web slang?

I'm a senior, I need a point & click solution. A simple solution, don't need to alter or animate.

Any suggestions other than discard the camera?

Thanks, Bob.

I recommend Google's Picasa.

http://picasa.google.com/

It's free and it's easy. After you install it, let it scan your HD for any pictures. It finds all images on your drives.

Select the image you want to resize. Go to the File menu, Export Pictures to Folder... command and select 800 pixels wide. It will open the folder after the export. Upload here!

If you want to color correct the image, then you can just click on I'm Feeling Lucky.

Hope this helps!

Picasa is the most convoluted image program on the planet, IMO.

For simple resizing, Irfanview is free, fast and very simple. It can batch resize and rename, so you don't have to clobber your originals.

Check my sig below for more info on pictures.

OK
, I got Picasa downloaded, & back here to follow your suggestions ambroseliao. Thank you kindly for your time & info.

Nielp : Windows xp. Firefox browser, except .

Tyler : Irfanview is undoubtably a good program, however it does not provide a copy, links to a page of sites for this. C-span links revolve back to irfanview, no download visible or by search. The next link on this page has the download. After the download, a page appears of Q & A's. The first link is "check why windows is slow", click that link, welcome to the Uniblue scam.

Exit, delete program, run CCleaner & regedit tool. I don't have the skills to figure out what else pig-backed with a download from a site that pushes uniblue, if any. Hijack this is on this computer, should be OK.

Back to Picasa, thanks everyone, this is progress, Bob.

Been using irfanview for years.

Downloads are hosted by reputable sites. If you have a problem, it is more likely your computer, or the user.

Bob,
Here is what looks like a safe link to IrfanView

Your next question might be how to install a program?

Here is a Comparison of some other raster graphics editors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_raster_graphics_editors

Ambroseliao : Just about, so close.

Followed your instructions, done the resize window, 800 pixel wide & hit export button ( using an 'export' button twice, front page to copy photo for resize, 2nd time to finish with the sizing window). Browse the file uploader for the one photo I resized, 'Look in :______ box' says Picasa3, lists 16 items, no "2 sensor BLDC 001" file. Is this photo inside one of them 16 items?

Maybe a simpler question : were did the resized photo go?

It goes where you told it in the "Export Location:" box in the "Export to Folder..." dialog box. Check there and if necessary, copy that location paste it into an Explorer window.

For me, it goes into the "My Pictures" folder in the "My Documents" folder on my "C" drive.

Marty : Follow your link, let us know were you end up & how many re-links it took, if you ever get to the download. Thats ok I can take a joke.

I wonder if this is the new google, 'search interfere' until the victim gives up on 'freewear' & buys something? lol.

Mostly I use AT32Resizer (free)
http://www.at32.com/doc/resizer.htm
http://www.mnetz.fsnet.co.uk/at32/resizer.exe
for batch resizing of JPG files, but for individual stuff I just use Paint that's built into Windows:
CTRL-O
browse to file, select and enter
CTRL-W
type percent resize desired
TAB
type same number again
ENTER
ALT-F
A
add "small" to filename (so I don't save over original) (or start with a copy rather than the original)
Repeat with next file if there's another.

For IRFanView, try this mirror:

or this direct link might work:

Photodeluxe 2.0 is my all time favorite software, you can resize the photo and adjust the quality/file-size/pixels-cm, only one photo at a time.

OSX Mail will shrink many at once as email attachments, once resized save to desktop.

Win 7 PC paint has resize feature too one photo at a time.

My photos are 90.31 x 67.73 cm with resolution of 25.35 pixels/cm. I resize them on Photodeluxe down to 3x2.5 cm approx, with a file size/quality of about 330 pixels/cm, then I uncheck the Constrain File Size option and bring the pixel/cm down to about 200 and save to jpg at medium quality setting that comes to about 72KB

EDIT: check amazon for some used Photodeluxe discs, some for as low as 11 bucks. BTW some discs are for either mac OS9 or Windows. My disc is for both. 8) 8) 8) unfornicately, mac snow leopard no longer support OS9

Google Picasa is real simple, great start. I did not know were the test image went to, the file name was a folder 'export' & right were its supposed to be in 'my pictures' (right for the newb).

There is nothing wrong with the computer from the Irfanview dowload (off) site. Paranoid, its a borrower computer, an old hp/xp. Tyler's right about the operator.

I have not read the thread yet today but will shortly. More options to learn from contributors, tried & true.

I'm off to post photos in a powerchair topic, back soon. Thank you for your help & valued time, Bob.

Ok there is 8 options posted, will look at all over the next month, took me 3 days to get it, a month to review is optimistic. Will download the Irfanview again, had some dark hours, feeling like the fool for starting a technical thread elsewere without the photos.

Newb, nuuuwwb said slowly with accent. I'm lucky Tyler didn't plaster me with them fall down laughing characters.

New horizons for the senior.

Another bright sunny day, dry roads & little wind. Couple days back R&R led to off-road, older hardwood bush, mostly very little understory (deer), lots of black water ponds. Ice condition was poor, reaction time was excellent, not quite "he walks on water", but quik as in dry feet!

Thanks again for everyones help, Bob.

Tyler, Thanks for response back.
Kinda criptic, as "pure of heart" walketh not.
"Causing insidious harm or ruin", "bugs borrow deep" now that got my attention. You know this is probable, or suspect, or just baitin' the newb?

The only time I run into this is in HP help files, run ya in circles. Mostly on library computers & many towns, travelling trades. Thats how I learned the little I do accomplish on the web.

I would need to compare one computer to another to believe a problem. As I don't recall the specific file I opened, I'll use Marty's link. I opened that page, skim it, theres the 'download' button/box. Nope, leads to a page of reviews, scroll down , there's Irfanview & its download button, hit it, nope, it's not a download, right back to Irfanview home page. Thats what I got off your link too. C-span download redirected to Irfanview, I read the address bar.

A bug or outdated links redirecting because someone isn't getting paid any more/never got paid?

Back tomorrow, Bob.

Go here:
http://download.cnet.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10021962.html?part=dl-IrfanView&subj=dl&tag=button
Click on Download Now
Now you have to wait. And wait some more. Be patient.
A box should open. Next step depends on what browser you are using and how you have it set up.

Your next question might be how to install a program?

If all else fails? Try restarting your computer.

If you have Windows XP then MS made its own 'power toy' photo resizer add on

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

If you have a newer version of windows then it does not work
but this has been made that does the same job

http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/

either one, all you do is right click the file and choose resize from the menu, and select the size you want

Recommend the latest greatest $$$$ computer.
Lets all do our best to help the economy and spend some money. Also the people who work at Adobe need money to feed their children.

This might be a bit over kill for resizing photos, but I like using the best tools for every job.

Snap-On?

I got a 1994 Ford E-250 Van.... Van is no longer on the road. It starts and runs great. Needs a brake line and leaks a way lot of oil.

Don't pay for expensive tools when better tools are free.

Mr Durden,
Most of my auto/truck repair tools, sockets and wrenches are from Sears. If I was able to live my life over I would buy used Snap-On tools.

Are you making fun of my me and my truck? She was like a 6000 pound girl friend. Please see topic:
