The Cycle Satiator, universal charger for the enthusiasts

My Satiator on 1.026 firmware sometimes has the ''power fault error" message, I was thinking of upgrading it to the newest firmware, but Grin says 1.032 is not kosher: from: https://ebikes.ca/product-info/grin-products/cycle-satiator.html But in the firmware upgrading app, 1.035 is the...

    Biro (electric moped) repair project

Ah, those look pretty nice! I like that they can be run sensorless as well, my Kelly controller only works sensored and is really finicky about the connections to the hall-sensors so this definitely looks better. I'll try to document something here. First step after we get it working is to...

    Biro (electric moped) repair project

To star off, this is a Biro: A friend of mine acquired one of these with a broken controller for very cheap. Now the plan is to repair it. It has two engines, in the rear wheels, and a removable 48V battery. Peak power is supposed to be 4000w. I'm thinking of two Kelly controllers for 48v and...

Figuring hall sensor pinout based on these numbers

It's a round connector combined with the phases. The small pins look like this, I named them like the numbers on the right: . . 56 . 4 . . . 123 I opened the motor, scraped off some insulation, and then it was easy to find out that 2 and 5 were indeed the power wires. When 5v is on...

Figuring hall sensor pinout based on these numbers

No, because the hall sensors are supposed to get 5v to power on, so before that continuity testing is a bit moot.

Figuring hall sensor pinout based on these numbers

Thanks for the suggestions! I tried the continuity testing, with a LED, but with power on 2&5 (and the power in reverse) I couldn't get the LED to light up any which way. I guess I'll take it apart, but to do it like this seemed more elegant to me :)

Figuring hall sensor pinout based on these numbers

I've got a secondhand wheel with Tranz-X motor (250w 24v it says) but I'm trying to figure out the hall sensor pinout. The motor looks exactly like this BTW from the inside: Which maybe isn't really relevant since I'm just trying to figure out the Hall pinout which my Kelly controller needs. I...

Has anyone reverse engineerd those $10 BMSes from eBay?

Or it's a tl431 precision voltage reference, and resistors are used to set the voltage, so you can replace 10 SMD resistors to set a new voltage :) My chips have 5183u and D01ED printed on them so I guess your bms is just a bit different. Can't find 431 printed anywhere. :(

Has anyone reverse engineerd those $10 BMSes from eBay?

Update, hooked it up to my lab power supply and shot a video. How the bms works My hypothesis is that every cell has a circuit for both OVP and UVP, and those go to a optocoupler, and all 10 OVP-charge-optocouplers need to be the same state for the charging to happen (when there's no cell at...

    Finding a good controller

Hah, I'd be perfectly fine with a PID battery current mode throttle, I'm only a biologist not a rocket scientist :) I'm new to this PID thing. Took me a while to get it (especially the differentation term of the equation), I couldn't get the PID library working correctly, I'll try again next...

    Finding a good controller

Thanks for the extremely helpful reply! The Grin Phaserunner seems to be $300, which is a bit expensive for what I want, which is just 1 additional feature. The cycle analyst looks very interesting, but it's $130 with $40 shipping so that's also a bit much. The lebowski look really cool, but...

    Finding a good controller

Because the biking computer in my bike store pedelec failed, I'm now running my bike with a $15 ebay 36v controller. It works allright, but the throttle is not throttle like in a car (where you adjust the amount of air going to the engine) but sets a target speed, so for a nice tailwind-like...

Has anyone reverse engineerd those $10 BMSes from eBay?

I'm referring to the kind of bms that's used in this tutorial: http://www.ebikeschool.com/how-to-build-a-diy-electric-bicycle-lithium-battery-from-18650-cells/ Mine just arrived but it is seemingly DOA, the seller is shipping me a new one but I want one now :( I'm guessing there's some kind of...
