Do you have more on this? I recently went to a lower gear for big hills carrying a heavy load (~300 # with trailer). I'm also frequently biking w/out any motor input at all, which I've heard can be bad for hub motors. What makes low speeds and driving w/out motor input bad for motors?

Was trying to make a 12v battery box on the cheap with a 18650 36v, 12ah battery pack I have. I got a 20 amp buck converter, and realize this thing is going to get hot....I haven't tested how hot yet, but almost certainly too hot for a plastic box. Is there anyway to safely enclose this? Or...

Bundle shot good, so not a bad connector: .3 ohm on Yellow hall, and ground wire. Everything else 0.1. Not looking like I can find a replacement locally... Might have it a go while I wait.

You may very well be right. However, the whole bundle was warm to the touch, but was way hotter where it was coiled near the connector. The battery wires were fine. Definitely not going 15mph...8 maybe?

I recently bought 2 batteries from them, and they provided 2 adapter cables to xt60 female for use with a Luna charger. I'm sure they can make you something. The adapter cable has a brand stamp of "cusmade"... "Custom made", probably.

Didn't know there were "cassette hub motors". Sounds like that's what OP should look for, and just use existing group set.

I think the fundamental question that hasn't been answered yet is whether your 8 speed cassette will fit a motorized rear wheel free hub body. I do not know the answer, but am curious. Generally speaking, 8,9,10 are wider than 6,7, so it likely will not fit. That bring said, what E-HP said is...

Jump bikes (rental bikes) have a keyed locking...nut...or something, on the ends of the axles on their front driven bikes. My Google-fu has failed me, and can't find anything comparable for sale. What good ways are there to keep them from being tampered with?

Quite possible. First build, and I have no idea what to expect. However, it generally only occurs at very high load, going uphill, with a trailer. Probably close to 300 pounds total. Another forum indicated that is normal behavior for a high load like that. So, could be the battery, could be...
