Hi: Answered question, just can't find it. Anyway, one line goes from the brake lever through the bike and connects to another cable within the controller. There's one for the right and left The other cable feeds straight to the caliper. I've added photos:

Hi: That's absolutely right, two lines coming off the lever just as you said. And, as I see it, they probably both need something done with them in order for the other problems to disappear.
