    madact's e-velomobile

As said, the RACV Energy breakthrough is a school only event, with seperate tracks for primary's/hybrids (Holden Track) and secondary schools (RACV Track) and this year is its 20th birthday. Teams consist of 6 to 8 riders and the rules state that the vehicles must have at least 3 wheels. I...

    tadpole seat height

As a part of a team that designs and builds racing trikes, obviously we are not making ease of access a priority, so the seat is going as low as possible. We found that dropping the seat approx. 2" saved 20 seconds per lap with no other changes to the bike due to better stability. My current...

    madact's e-velomobile

Hey, that is how we shape our rollcage hoops. Except we use the base of the pedastal drill in the engineering workshop when no one is looking  Have also used a 16" rim when I was using aluminium rollcages or small diameter CrMo tubing.

    madact's e-velomobile

Think it is due to there is only about 35-40 hybrids on the track where the HPV's are pushing close to 100 on the same length track now. Hybrids are also built strongrer now due to the regs as well with bigger diameter roll bars etc. Hybrid teams tend to be better behaved as well and respect...

    madact's e-velomobile

Never got to Murray Bridge yet. Tried once to take a team but the school said no to it :x Something about me missing to many classes. I am now running a hybrid. With the current motors/gearing we are pushing 80km/h. Back in the good old days (before my time) when they had more fuel to play...

    madact's e-velomobile

Any reason why you are going to a dual stage drive I guess you would call it. Would seem a lot simpler to run with a larger chain ring - 80 tooth or bigger - and run a direct drive to the rear cluster. Do you really need 18 gears and a 10:1 step up (if I've calculated correctly) with a 700c...

    electric/petrol hybrid revisited

GRRRRRR - stupid bloody short  Stuffed around hooking up a digital panel meter so we could get a read on battery usage today and mounted one on the trike. As one of my students was giving me a hand after school, I decided to let him have a try of the electric motor and to test some of...

    Aerodynamics of world record HPV

or check out some of the photos on the RACV Energy Breakthrough site - link below. Actually surprised to see exposed wheels front and rear......guess there is a reason for it

    electric/petrol hybrid revisited

As promised a couple of pics. The standard f finish is nothing like some of the others on this site, like Aussie Jester or Recumbrance, but it not to bad for being mostly done by school kids. As I said, some of the work is a bit rough and ready at the moment as everything is evolving as...

    trike ideas

There is a two person tadpole trike being built at work at the moment. Both people pedal and sit one behind the other. Assistance is provided by a 35cc Honda. As it is the school holidays now (yes I teach), getting pics may be a problem :(

    electric/petrol hybrid revisited

200 mpg is not bad but last year we travelled 442km before the event got cancelled on around two litres of fuel - out of the three allocated for the 24 hours. If my maths is correct then that is around 500 mpg  I should of mentioned that for the event we are not able to charge our...

    electric/petrol hybrid revisited

G'day all, Some may remember last year my team and I tried to build a petrol/electric hybrid trike for a 24hr race against other schools, and that we ran into a lot of issues with speed controllers self destructing. On lasted 20 metres  Eventually the decision was made to ditch the...

    Neat display (electronic tinkerers only........)

This would be perfect for my 24 hour racer project. Especially for my electronic students. Love to get a schematic or circuit design so they could have a go at building a couple :D
