Do you mean number 5? It's groups 1-5 that failed. Regardless, what's the mechanism that causes this cascade? I think the management IC is the TI BQ76940, which is for up to 15s. These 15 are split into 3 blocks of 5, so it's plausible that a whole block failed somehow. Now to figure out the how.

Yep, I scratched through the Kapton and measured across 1-5 on the electrodes. Dead, dead, dead. Balance wires (and their solder connection to the electrodes) look intact. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

"One for all" is... a single pulse per revolution? Per phase cycle? I assume the first two are the usual connections direct from the motor, and "communication" is some unspecified UART/CAN/MODBUS/whatever interface. Wonder what "error type" could possibly be?

I think you're talking about charging directly from a PSU. The discussion is about charging through the controller. The PSU voltage needs to be well below the battery's discharge voltage. For 14s, you'd be safe with a 24 V PSU. 36 V would be pushing it. 54 V is much too high. Even if you could...
