Which bike to convert ? What is important to look at before buying ?

I should have mentioned the 14s8p battery I'm using is from China, a factory build, 18650 cells, with a relatively low price. It's several years old now. Low price went with low energy density and higher weight for a given energy level. The previous battery had higher density cells, it went...

Which bike to convert ? What is important to look at before buying ?

I've built 5 ebikes, here's the experiences: Rigid bike with front hub motor. Direct drive front hub motor was heavy and gave way too much shock up through the handlebars. Gear drive front hub motors (2) were lighter and gave less shock through the handlebars. Lighter hub motor is better...

    What's your Favorite bike lock?

48" Kryptonite Keeper 712, for general riding, going to the store, etc. Also carry a longer 3/8" cable and strong lock. My bike has panniers so carrying those isn't a problem. For front porch or in the garage when away, I use the heaviest Kryptonite chain and the biggest Kryptonite U lock...

    Ebike spotting in Europe

This past July we went to Athens, Santorini, Kotor, Messina, Savoca, Amalfi and Barcelona. Anywhere that had some climbing, the bikes were almost all ebikes. These were factory bikes, I didn't notice any conversions. It looked like some had throttles but it's hard to tell. Riders on some...

Off the line torque - DD motors

Electric motors, the ones we use, produce some cogging effect at low rpm. At higher rpm it's there but not noticeable. Cogging is normal and noticeable at low rpm. It comes from magnets and poles passing each other. Comparing direct drive with gear drive: if a DD hub motor has cogging you...

Saw many fat tire ebikes this weekend

Sand Fest happened in Port Aransas, TX this past weekend. Many sand sculptures are built before the opening on Friday, the event continues through Sunday. We went on Friday and Saturday, Friday has more locals and fewer tourists. We saw a lot of fat tire ebikes on Friday, most looked like...

    Hybrid road bike ebike conversion

Extremely do-able, it should work very well. Last year I rode around 1200 miles using a front hub motor and another 900 miles using a rear hub motor. I can't tell the difference between them when riding on dry pavement. Steep climbing on dirt is different, the rear hub motor worked better...

Advice for starting out a new conversion (UK)

20 miles each way, 40 miles total on one charge is easy to do with a big enough battery. I'm using a 20ah, 14s, 8p, 18650 cell battery, with your fitness, weight and bikes, you could easily do 30 miles each way. It's an inexpensive battery from Amazon and has never been a problem. It looks...

    Ebike vs Escooter

Really nice scoot and the two ebikes too. Well done! I'd sure like to ride that scooter, it looks and sounds like a good design. The battery for the Speedway IV Pro is 14s, 8p of 18650 cells, same as my ebike, it should work really well and have excellent range. A long time ago I rode a...

With a MAC10T, what provides is the pedelec functionality?

I ride a comfortable cadence and human power output and add some epower, using the throttle, as well to get a comfortable speed. During a ride the bodies natural power output and cadence vary depending on where you are in the natural rise and fall of your bio power output ability. In pedal...

Dual Motor, 20x4" Fat Tires, Suspension

I'd sure like to ride one of those bikes. Saw two ebikes on the street today, both appeared to be 20" or 24" fat tire bikes that had throttles along with pedaling. Both riders had big smiles as they started uphill.

Picked up this freebee on the side of the road...

That should make an excellent ebike or pedal bike for that matter.

    Anyone else here feel guilty?

"I'm not sure what guilt "feels like". My ex-wife diagnosed me as having a sociopathic personality. At least, one of her personalities did. Of course, it was the personality that was manipulative, so I'm not certain I trust that opinion..." A pretty wit, Sir Well played

Full suspension bikes compatible with a frame battery

Early Specialized FS bikes had an open front triangle. So did some others. Look for a GT LTS 2 or 3, they have an open front triangle. My FS bike didn't have an open triangle. First I put the 52v, 20ah battery in a bag on top of a seatpost rack. That worked well until I stopped on a steep...

Dual Motor, 20x4" Fat Tires, Suspension

Most of the ebikes I see lately have similar tires and layout but without rear or even any suspension. That should be a very competent bike. A throttle would be a huge plus.
