Direct Drive Gearless Hub Motor Drag Technical Q

yeah, the biggest issue is the weight. The geared motor while less ideal, is nonetheless lighter then the DD. However, I guess the weight difference between the two is about 4-6 pounds, so I guess it's not necessarily a deal breaker

Direct Drive Gearless Hub Motor Drag Technical Q

I've decided to stick with my current motor the crystalyte saw 20D, as weight was important to me and it was the lightest one at the time. The next lighter is the MSOFP16 but it doesn't have regenerative braking, and I feel that it's sort of a game changer when you are in city traffic like...

    Regen

I think the regen% on CA should be interpreted best as, 'how much larger battery I would have needed', i.e. if you recover 100% of your energy then you would have infinite range, which makes sense. So if I run dry and had 15% regen, then without regen I would have only made it 85% of the way...

Mixing old & new batterys grin LiGo

Hello, I was wondering if there's any particular way to arrange batteries to make a pack when having old and new ones. For reference using the airplane portable LiGo from Grin. Each one has two pairs of positive and negative terminals. I've used four of them together for about 2 months daily...

Field weakening, how does it work from battery draw

Hello all, have phaserunner with field weakening feature. was wondering what the setting means- 0-x AMPS for field weakening. To my understanding, more amps means more field weakening. Just to clarify, is more amps means more amps drawn from the battery? If so, is this in addition to amps...

Fast Ebike for a tough commute

Yeah, I emailed Justin already. I need the Brompton version, the one listed is used with standard 10cm dropouts but I need their narrow motor

    Why not comfort bikes?

I would go with suspension is not as needed depending on the rider and ability to navigate around potholes and ability to stand and flex both knees and elbows over potholes. That said, I am looking to get more suspension by modifying what I can

Fast Ebike for a tough commute

I can see why regen braking can be unpopular. I am currently waiting for a fixed clutch geared hub motor to be available within the next 6 months to solve the weight problem, as the large direct drive motors are indeed heavy. However as for pedaling with the motor off, I've done it a few times...

    43 mph unicycle...who's faster?

I'm really interested in the electric unicycle. It's a very interesting vehicle for multimode transport. You can't get lighter or smaller than just having a single wheel. I can see it being better than those electric kick scooters since the large format wheel allows it to handle potholes more...

Compact Field Oriented Controller, ASI + Grin, limited run

Hello all, I've been using the freewheel function on the phase runner. Makes me feel like I'm always gliding downhill which is great. However I noticed that's a very high pitch whine that occurs whenever the motor is producing power. It's not very noticeable over wind noise but it is easily...

Fast Ebike for a tough commute

I bike everyday and average 14 mph, top speed 40 with pedaling. Use about 15 w-h/mi. If you are fit enough you can definitely make an ebike that can reach 40 for 40. Regenerative braking is a must, I get an additional 17% range with my high power setup, and even more if I derate the maximum...

    pedal assist or scooter?

The cycle analyst has a variable power assist option, which increases the level of assist with cadence, so higher pedaling speeds leads to higher assist. I use this to give a baseline level of assist which helps to offset the increased wind resistance. Since wind resistance scales...

Carteret NJ Police get the E- Grin

NJ and the NYC area are getting more ebike friendly as it's pretty clear most people want to be able to use ebikes because no one really wants to self propel themselves if they just can have a car do it for them. They've passed some laws that are legalizing ebikes slowly in NYC throughout 2019...
