    Questions about Crystalyte 5303s

Hi all, I figured I'd post on this thread as opposed to cluttering the forum with another thread about a really old motor. I've come across a 72v Crystalyte hub motor kit, the hub motor is laced to a 29" wheel and it came with a 72v Crystalyte controller, the APM display, brake levers, rear...

    Is DIY dying?

Thank you Balmorhea, very helpful. I'll do some research on those.

    Is DIY dying?

Interesting...so maybe I'm just not "DIY" enough to take advantage of the existing improvements in battery tech. That's something I'll have to explore. Any suggestions on what automotive cells you've had a good experience with?

    Is DIY dying?

This is my experience as well, although I just have one ebike set up for around town and I don't ride eMTB. The red text is what I am trying to get at. It's been a long wait IMO.

    Is DIY dying?

My intent with this thread was to gather opinions about the technology advances (or lack thereof) in the DIY market. From my admittedly inexperienced perspective, the DIY offerings for motors and batteries don't seem to have anywhere near the same level of effort from the manufacturers to cut...

    Is DIY dying?

I think this is a great summation of what I was trying to get at with my original post. I'm not so much interested in "more power" but more the power to weight ratio, both for motors and batteries. My current BBSHD build doesn't need any more power, but if it was significantly lighter and had...

    Is DIY dying?

Hi all, I don't mean to be inflammatory with the title of my post, but I am interested in other's opinions of the direction of the DIY ebike market. I'm primarily interested in mid drive motors, and it doesn't seem like anything new has come out the last few years in the mid drive market. Most...

Why fat tires on a street ebike?

I have a BBSHD on a steel hardtail 27.5+ bike. Currently running the WTB tires that came with the bike when I bought it, set up tubeless. I have around 600 miles on the bike, generally running mostly on pedal assist on bike paths and roads. I always have at least one fairly heavy pannier on...

Damaged Jumbo Shark - anything to look out for?

Thanks for the advice all! I have it on a charger now with the bluetooth BMS up, all the cells were still balanced and also appear to be taking the charge evenly. Nothing rattling and no cracks after a bit more detailed inspection. It hit pretty hard though, one edge probably has close to 1/8...

Damaged Jumbo Shark - anything to look out for?

Hi all, I let an acquaintance ride my bike around the cul-de-sac, he hit a curb going pretty fast and the Jumbo Shark battery popped off and skidded along the driveway. From what I can tell the battery just got scratched up, there aren't any cracks and the battery seems to work fine. I'm...

Burning smell from BBSHD at full throttle

Hi all, I wanted to see if anyone's experienced a burning smell from their BBSHD when under full throttle for a brief period of time. I was coming home from a friends house yesterday and decided to see how fast the bike would go on throttle only. I was on a gradual downhill and had the...

EM3ev, setting the record straight on a few things

What you are describing sounds weird to me. I bought a BBSHD kit at the end of April from EM3EV, had it in about 3 weeks. The shipping notifications are a little funky but every time I asked a question they responded the next day. I was never asked for my birthdate. Did you order directly...

2018 Kona Unit BBSHD Build with questions

Took a dremel to the battery baseplate. Here is a pic, I used yellow tape to outline the outer edges of the grinding area. I really didn't have to take too much material so I'm not worried about compromising the strength of the plate. The plate lies flat now, it may be a fraction of a degree...

2018 Kona Unit BBSHD Build with questions

Thanks, yeah in the pictures I haven’t tightened the motor down yet. Now that I put the Lekkie on I was able to get the main lock ring and the jam nut on. It’s tight against the downtube.

2018 Kona Unit BBSHD Build with questions

Well I ordered a Lekkie bling ring and got a much better fit this time around. I only needed 1 3mm spacer on the BBSHD and about 4mm worth of chainring spacers. This gave me a decent chainline although trying to go the lowest gear throws the chain. Pretty sure I don’t need the granny for a BBSHD...
