I almost burned my condo down today w/ my battery pack

Ya, batteries kinda scare me now  That's a good thing, I guess. I'm thinking about getting a fireproof blanket to wrap around my 15ah ping-battery on the back of my bike. But then again, it is LiFePo4 so maybe I'm good. In any case, the old pack that almost started the first is sadly...

I almost burned my condo down today w/ my battery pack

Ya, good point, LiMn is relatively safe. The fire danger was more from the two paper grocery bags and the carpet (ya, I just set everything on the carpet  ) that the battery was in contact with. It burned a hole through both bags and started to burn into the carpet. Pics coming once...

I almost burned my condo down today w/ my battery pack

I got home from work a little while ago and started cooking dinner. I began to smell a very acrid smell, like burning rubber or plastic. The stove was smoking a bit, so I figured this was the culprit. About 10 minutes later, and my eyes are starting to burn from the acrid stench in the air. I...

    Broken bike, motor acting weird

When the throttle went crazy, I pulled the main battery wires. When the battery in unplugged, the bike rolls without resistance. The comment on bad fets sounds like a good bet. I've had a few controllers go bad from burnt fets before. I'll take a look.

    Broken bike, motor acting weird

The other day, my bike started acting crazy. I was on a ride and the motor went up to max speed with no throttle response. I had to reach into my pack and frantically yank apart some connections to slow the thing down. I've reseated all the connections, and now, it's behaving unlike anything...

Testing for bad cells in parallel configuration?

The problem is either with the BMS or the battery cells; based on the BMS cutting power after about a half second, I diagnosed it as a faulty cell or cell group, though I might be wrong. Gotta start somewhere. Plus I called Batteryspace and the engineer said it was likely a faulty cell after I...

Testing for bad cells in parallel configuration?

I'm sure it's here somewhere, but I'm really tied of looking :? I have a batteryspace LiMnNi 36v 12ah pack that stopped working last week. It will actually put out just a little juice, but any significant load, and it cuts out completely. I believe the onboard BMS is tripping because one of the...

Anyone designed a cyclone motor guard yet?

I know, old thread... but just put the motor in the triangle/frame of the bike. Let the bike be the bash guard. I don't know why people keep hanging these below the bike when they could just put it in the frame...

    Nuvinci N360 hub

Thanks for the response, Phil-- cleared up everything. :D I can't wait to hear my cyclone in action-- it's currently sitting on a shelf waiting for a suitable bike. As for the Nuvinci N360s... these things are amazing! I think Fallbrook Technologies is sitting on a very valuable and...

    Nuvinci N360 hub

I'm glad I found this post-- I am planning on using the N360 and my 900w Cyclone kit in my newest full suspension build. A few questions: 1. How did you arrange the cyclone throttle and N360 controls? Aren't they both supposed to be mounted on the right side of the handle bars? I imagine you'd...

    Power and Control Connector-- All-in-one?

Awesome, thanks for all the useful info :D I saw several that should suit my purpose.

    Power and Control Connector-- All-in-one?

Within the connector/plug, I would need three main power connections (capable of 40ams) and 14 small control connections. After some looking, I found that they're called hybrid power data connectors. I haven't been able to find one to suit my purposes... yet.

    Power and Control Connector-- All-in-one?

I'm tired of googling... and I haven't found what I need. Here's the end goal: one plug that connects power and control wiring. The thing is, the power cables are thick and running at 40amps, and the control wiring are teeny-tiny running low loads. I want to be able to connect ONE connection and...

    Using Right Angle Reduction Gearboxes

John, angle grinder or angle drill, how would you go about replacing the motor? After looking at exploded part diagrams, it looks like the pinion gears on a lot of these things are attached straight to the stock motors. I would love to hear how you would select your motor and rig it into the...

Nine Continent hub motor and vertical rear dropouts

My initial reaction was "Ya, go ahead and bend the frame a few mm-- just try to stabilize the welds so they don't stress and crack during the process." If it's only a few mm to bend, you're probably fine, but after a bit of googling, I think you should do a bit more research before making a...
