Yes.. BESST is mandatory, when you want to change firmware. For setting assist levels DPC245/DPC010 and GO+ app are enough. However DPC240/DPC241 are deprecated, as well as the M500. Consider upgrading if you want to use newer features like GO+.

Definitely too old for anything.. DPC241 is the DPC240, but with Bluetooth, but never worked reliably with Bafang GO app.. You would need to replace it with DPC245, as rightnow it's the only display that supports setting levels with Bafang GO+. Then you need to flash 46.2 to your M600 motor...

This is the issue. As far as I know, 46.2 is the only firmware that's capable!

M510- and M560-motors are newer than M500- and M600-motors. The M510-controller (~710W peak) has received multiple revisions and can be recommended over M500 (~660W peak). However if you want power, I'd rather go with the M600-controller (~915W peak), than M560 (~1520W peak) in the current...

Yes I looked for "winding layout" and this picture showed up on Google. Found it by accident. I think this is a very nice find, if you want to work with BBSHDs and develop controllers for it. Paper is from 2019, I wonder why nobody found it earlier..

I just stumbled across this highly scientific paper about the Bafang BBSHD. It features a lot of need greedy details about the characteristics of the motor itself. I can't exactly interpret them, but wanted to share them here. :)...
