Holy ****, I'll take my chances with unprotected cells before I spend $200 on a bms. Maybe if you have a few kw battery pack it makes sense, but for the 12s2p and 13s2p packs I have planned absolutely no way would I drop that kinda coin. Costs over double the cells.

Thermal fuse shouldn't be too hard to implement, if you are concerned about per cell voltage monitoring breakout a multimeter and check. Put a few jst connectors so you can check. You make it seem like that is your priority, so put a thermistor in the pack with a microcontroller and a fat relay...

Following. The vesc has amp protection and low voltage cutoff last time I checked so you don't even really need a bms. Lots of guys in the sk8 forums were using "charge only" bms's with great results. 5 years ago, though, things may have changed

I didn't realize a keyway was the only option... yikes. You could try to drill/tap the pulley for a set screw. I would be mindful of modifying that shaft, they are usually a pain to swap. You could try getting the correct size bushing (8-9mm ID, 1" OD?) and press fitting everything with a torch...

So you want to put the little pulley from the belt kit that's meant for a gas motor onto the vevor motor? What's the vevor motor shaft diameter? Seems trivial, you need to order a bushing (or 3d print one). Unless the pulley is too small, then you need to drill it larger or turn down your vevor...

That's going to limit you to mid drive kits/bikes, which means you're putting 10kw through a wimpy bicycle chain. Hub motors go up to 5kw with multiple gears before they switch to single speed only because they can't fit anymore, I had my bike shipped from alibaba and had to have them drop it to...
