Why fat tires on a street ebike?

They’re also available in 120 tpi. Would that be better? I know 30tpi is more puncture resistant, but 120 should be more supple and the 120 is dual compound.

The Origin8 Supercells were the tires I was referring to earlier.

Why fat tires on a street ebike?

Remember that the OP was asking about fat bikes on the street where you would use higher psi. You wouldn’t use off road low pressure with any tire on the road, right? I’m not going to argue that they handle as well as a 2.3 tire, but they aren’t nearly as bad as they are being made out to be...

Why fat tires on a street ebike?

You’re right. I wouldn’t classify my bike as “fast”. It will do 30+mph, but it’s no emoto like a Sur Ron. I guess what I was trying to say was that at *legal speeds (28mph or less) it’s not a handling nightmare. I didn’t realize that to enjoy my e bike I had to take part in a pissing contest...

Why fat tires on a street ebike?

There’s a little more to it than just for fun, though it is a big part of it. I chose to build mine because I wanted a steel hard tail frame for strength but I also wanted a comfortable ride. Another reason was all weather capability. I ride year round in N.E. Ohio snow is always a possibility...

    Geared hub fat bike.

Mine isn’t set up to regenerate. It’s probably not even possible with my controller. Even still, riding on the road with the hills, the drag doesn’t seem to bother me. Pedal up a hill, coast down. The trail though, is mostly flat. Very gentle hills except for a few places. When I ride there, it...

    Geared hub fat bike.

Thanks everyone for your help. You gave me a lot to think about. I was thinking that a geared hub would freewheel a little easier and therefore extend the range a little. I didn’t even consider that the tires were the main culprit for the drag. It makes perfect sense though. I do still have the...

    Geared hub fat bike.

Hi everyone, I have a Mongoose Dolomite that I electrified about 6 months ago. Currently, it’s got a 1000 watt direct drive hub with a 1500 watt controller and a 48v 13ah battery. I built the bike pretty cheaply just to see how much I would like it. The plan has been to upgrade parts as...
