Thanks for the feedback, folks! I'm glad to hear it's working well.

Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

Re:lathe comments, i'm in an apartment, so purchasing machinery is out of the question at the moment. Yes, excluding tire. Because the weight of a little taller sidewall is a lot less than an equivalent amount of rim. So the idea is to get the heaviest part closer to the center. I did: - No...

Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

Been a while.. Generally speaking, all the easy/cheap weight that could be removed without compromising safety, is removed. Current yearly average is 45.2mpg with a lot of 10 miles and under trips, maybe 5% is highway, so in these conditions, i wouldn't benefit from any additional aerodynamic...

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

If you want to make another run with non-BMSed packs, please read this thread, it applies to your situation: RC Lipo pack inspection, series/parallel charging, and lifespan/safety tips The need to have an extremely well matched pack if you're not running a BMS is critical. A well matched pack...

Please help me test: do our forum 'bell icon' notifications work OK?

Question to help diagnose the notifications system in Xenforo.. We know the email notifications for threads are pretty busted, but what about the bell icon.. Does it reflect actual updates accurately for you? What i'm talking about: I'd def. like to hear from frequent posters.. if you...

    The "Watch" feature

Yikes, this problem has worsened a ton. Thanks for letting me know about this, and sorry for the bug. Will put this on the front burner when the ES Dev team is back from Thanksgiving-acation.

.... Gear hub efficiency Question ...

Hmmm, that's exceptionally low efficiency for a motor with 0.35mm lams then. IDK, MXUS in general is not a great brand and they have a lot of so/so motor designs Are you crossing the mountain from Beaverton to Portland, BTW?

.... Gear hub efficiency Question ...

4% grade will lower motor RPM and therefore dock you down into a lower part of the efficiency curve on any motor. 500w motors are not very powerful hill climbers, so they'll be running at lower RPM than a motor capable of more power, reducing efficiency more. Most important is what happens on...

.... Gear hub efficiency Question ...

Typically they do. 80% efficiency is very low, consider a motor with higher efficiency like the Shengyi SX2 which can peak in the 86% range. Geared motors are at a huge heat shedding disadvantage VS DDs, so turning 6% less battery power into heat is great.

Electric boost motor for Mazda RX8

Given that seeing 100k miles out of a rotary is rare, why not electrify the car? Supercaps are eye bleedingly expensive and heavy versus batteries, usually containing less energy than a lead acid battery; so visualize hundreds, maybe thousands of pounds of supercaps to have adequate energy...

I had a lithium fire (my own fault)

~4.5v is where non-lifepo4 lithium starts to get 'explodey'. There isn't a large margin of error with lithium. Internal resistance is u-shaped in most non-lifepo4 chemistries. As we get closer to 4.6v, internal resistance continues to go up and can help overheat the cell into thermal runaway...

    Xenforo conversion thread

My design sensibilities are offended, however, if you're happy with it, i am! Update from here.. We tested a big round of Xenforo and PHP upgrades on the dev server and it was basically uneventful. We're surprised that it was so easy - PHPBB was a nightmare to upgrade on the...

    Xenforo conversion thread

So we've got an issue with darkmode missing all the features and visual tweaks we've added. Next version of Xenforo has some kind of built in darkmode apparently. So the existing darkmode theme may be replaced with native xenforo functionality. Xenforo v3.0 is the next release.. it may also...

    Xenforo conversion thread

You can't search within a search in this system. The box is there to search a subforum, sort, or revise the search for that subforum search; saves you a click. It's an addon for convenience and was fast to add. It's meant to reproduce this feature from PHPBB ( minus the shortcut to advanced...

We've got the forum sorting functionality and in-forum search deployed, check it out! Also needs a little UI improvement because the top of the page looks rather crowded but that can come later. We just noticed that these cool sorting options can also be added to search, and also, we can set...

It's pretty awesome especially if you are new to the forum. :) That feature is just about finished and looks like it's getting deployed this week. RC Lipo pack inspection, series/parallel charging, and lifespan/safety tips

From what i understand, discharging to 0v makes them contain less power ( therefore less flammable ). The problem is that, if charged after, they're damaged, so could go kaboom.

Is there a reliable torque sensor?

ebikes.ca has an inordinate amount of torque sensing things - sensors, motors with torque sensors built inside them, etc. I have zero experience with torque sensors so i can't vouch for any particular piece of hardware.
