    Grin’s perspective of Ebike fires

Others will be chuckling when that garbage quits working and your car is bricked. And then again when you get the bill. E-cars are an improvement, like for like, over stinking gas cars. But until there are cost-effective, simple, serviceable, durable e-cars available, all of them look like...

    My econo-e-bike

Cable sleeves are like sequined panties. Great if you're in that line of work, otherwise an annoying waste of time.

Want to move away from Proprietary to Mainstream

Overall, or cell group by cell group? If one parallel cell group is out of spec, the BMS will say naw. Oftentimes, the BMS runs off of just one or two cell groups and punches them into submission during long periods of inactivity.

How do I go about choosing a replacement front suspension fork on Arrow 9?

Generally speaking, suspension forks transitioned to threadless headsets a long time ago. But some bikes designed for adjustable fit (comfort bikes, flat foot bikes, hybrids) still use a threaded headset to allow easy height changes to the stem. The stem in those cases is usually an angle...

Quick Release Handlebar? (Alternative to Turtle Neck Quick Release)

I presume you've already worked out tools-free ways to stow your e-skateboard on your e-bike, and your Tesla on your flat bed truck. Honestly though, if you knew you wanted a dinghy for your car, why did you get a fat tire bastard bike instead of an actually compact folding model? Those...

Quick Release Handlebar? (Alternative to Turtle Neck Quick Release)

Yeah, this is the second question I've seen from the OP requesting a tools-free solution to a problem that someone should only have if they're familiar with using tools. EDIT: Oh, Tesla driver. Feckless I guess.

Middrive, belt drive and coaster brake

I keep hearing things about how long belt drives last, and I keep observing them laid to waste at a young age when they arrive at my work stand. Gates has been hammering away at the problem for decades now, so they're probably the best in the business. But not observably as worked out as they...

Is it possible to convert this 20" alloy wheel to quick release or thru axle?

It's the wrong diameter. Maybe also the wrong length. Just use a wing nut, it's much easier. Or carry a little wrench in your pocket like somebody who's ready for eventualities.

Is it possible to convert this 20" alloy wheel to quick release or thru axle?

The bearings don't need any compression. Whatever holds the wheel in securely is enough. You could use a naked 10mm quick release axle instead of the through axle, and fasten it with a regular skewer, but the bearings would be supported by a threaded surface instead of a cylindrical surface...

Is it possible to convert this 20" alloy wheel to quick release or thru axle?

Use wing nuts instead of cap nuts on the axle you have. You can have a wing nut on just one side or the other.

Is it possible to convert this 20" alloy wheel to quick release or thru axle?

The photos show that you have a through axle already. What are you trying to accomplish? No-tools removal? Those bearings look like 6200 size (10x30x9), so you could pop them out and replace with 6903 bearings (17x30x7) and appropriate spacers if that helps do what you want.

Want to move away from Proprietary to Mainstream

Go through the wires and plugs relentlessly until you figure out what the problem is. There's hardly anything else it could be other than a cable or plug.

Middrive, belt drive and coaster brake

Well if you're starting from scratch, and will be designing your own frame and other parts, then all the fit and physical compatibility issues can be addressed. 5 and 7 speed internal gear hubs are not designed for superhuman power or torque. At EU-legal power levels, they'll probably be...

How do I go about choosing a replacement front suspension fork on Arrow 9?

Sliders are also called "lowers", the bottom section of the fork that moves up and down in relation to the stanchions ("uppers). Steel crowns and sliders are indicative of suspension forks that are so cheaply made they aren't worth buying.

It doesn't matter. If they're not made of infinitely stiff material, they can flex open on torque reversal and allow the nut to back off just a touch. Repeat ad infinitum, and soon it's new frame and motor time. If you have enough surplus heat capacity to brake as well as propel, then it...

How do I go about choosing a replacement front suspension fork on Arrow 9?

Get a fork about the same overall length that has a compression damping/lockout dial. Avoid ones that have steel crowns or sliders.

BYD Seagull, the cheap electric car the USA almost got

On the plus side, the lack of a cheap to own, cheap to operate electric car here probably does push both development and adoption of e-bikes to some degree. Hopefully the auto industry's short term anticompetitive thinking cuts down their overall slice of the pie in the long run. Having more...

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

Recumbent lowracers are famously ill-handling because of the low center of mass height. Low CoM is great for trikes, but awful for bikes because it interferes with countersteering.

High performance & durability Cannondale Semi Recumbent

While it's never going to handle as competently as a normal bike, you can tame twitchy steering a bit by increasing front tire, tube, and/or rim mass. A thorn resistant tube is probably the cheapest and easiest first step, followed by a heavy new tire like Kenda Kwick Drumlin KS+. Increasing...

BYD Seagull, the cheap electric car the USA almost got

Protective tariffs make a lot more sense when they're protecting an industry that's actually making the thing being taxed. When they're protecting the industry from being obligated to meet an existing demand for that thing, it seems to me that everybody loses except the welfare-sucking...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Discs? Sure. But rim brakes' heat handling scales with the rim, and they can be used two per wheel if redundancy or extra pad area is desired. I used to be able to reach 55 mph riding my pedal bike to work on any day, and at that time I weighed about 400 pounds. I never had a moment's...

    Freewheel question

Cassettes are better if you'll be pedaling enough to wear things out periodically. They also make your hub motor more fragile, with weaker bearings and less available replacement parts. I pedal pretty much constantly, but I rarely wear anything out in the chain drive of my hub motor bikes...

Is it possible to convert this 20" alloy wheel to quick release or thru axle?

The bearings can be replaced with any other bearings that share the same outer diameter. I can't read the size marking on the bearing seal, so I can't tell you what other bearings might fit. If I had to guess, it looks like it's already set up for a 10mm through axle.

So you think everything on an e-bike should be repairable EXCEPT the most expensive and resource intensive component? Which is in fact very repairable compared to say a frame?
