Madness. Why such slow penetration for hybrid?

This is madness. Why such slow penetration for hybrid (optionally plug in) in areas where its a cost saving no brainer, like stop start utility vehicles? Instead of targeting obvious low hanging fruit, marketing and fantasyland tree huggers have hijacked EVs into some "statement" that clearly...

Got a big block to mow?

A; simple, easier & I hope fresh way for a ~self propelled mower? Its not for all, but its cheap & one less fancy ice device in the shed. Seems to me we are drowning in them. Chainsaws, edgers, trimmers, outboards, ... Each is a fiddly time sink. Just tow a standard petrol mower with your...

interesting 2016 link, hard to categorise, china EV cells

There seems a good chance china will dominate making and using EVs globally. It seems the govt has mandated limn over lifepo4 for evs. (stupid, let the market decide) it seems industry there prefer pouch cells (as do I) over tesslaS etc. preferred cannister cell approach. "Summing up…...

heavy rider spokeless integrated hub motor. Discuss?

I have reflected a lot on the fact that so many great candidates for bikes are handicapped further by exceeding mainstream bicycle design weight limits. Whatever the bike chosen, i read that big riders main weak spot is the rear wheel. re the below link (Proof of concept only): its a cast...

diamond encased nuclear waste as millenium+ batteries

http://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2016/november/diamond-power.html Present practicality aside, it seems an important, new?, fundamental building block component. just as a PV cell transduces light energy directly to electricity, this does from radiation. I guess its not new, whats new is a safe...

weight & efficiency dont matter for stationary green storage

Obviously, but it bears repeating, weight is of no consequence for stationary power storage like off grid. Also logically, efficiency harnessing the power is ~irrelevant, if the solar or wind power stored is clean and free anyway. The math doesnt make sense to me I am afraid, but it seems...

all warm climate urban cars should be part hybrid

"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_air_conditioning In a modern automobile, the A/C system will use around 4 horsepower (3 kW) of the engine's power" Automatic stop start isnt going to happen on an ice car in gridlock w/ a/c on. all such cars should at least have sufficient electric...

Hybrid trains, cheap partial electrification, momentum~

Its half baked, but what do u guys think? The forgotten infrastructure cost free propulsion method for trains it seems is gravity. Electrification is good it seems, but woo, the capital costs mean it never happens - in america anyway. But does every mile of track really need messy and...

I expected better energy numbers from TGV HSRail

re: http://www.railfaneurope.net/tgv/eurostar.html specifically: Performance Metrics: 16 kW/tonne / 0.98 tonnes/seat / 15.90 kW/seat I guess a more meaningful metric would be kw per passenger km ~ but based on these numbers, its little better the a small car, if u assume: 4 passenger & 80kw...

better custom shape pouch cell batterys, triangle e.g.?

Put simply, pouch cells lack the flexibility of 18650S e.g to be shaped to suit. They conventionally prefer a regular brick shape. Triangular 3.2v/3.7v pouches exist, but a tad obscure. Fine, if they suit in the below scenario even better if available. BUT a same maker 10ah pouch e.g...

A lighter cruiser? Maybe a modded ladies bike?

A moot idea for discussion? A ladies is structurally inferior as it lacks the crossbar of a mens. So, the remaining lower 2 sides of the triangle have to be made stronger and heavier. The advantage for ebikers is there is no "ceiling" on the ideal mounting point for heavy components. A...

    Promising commuter ebike? Gyro unicycle.

ebay hall effect foot accelerator, perhaps fyi?

Heresy? I mean seriously, do any of you 500w+ guys (all of u in usa it seems), ever actually pedal? Of course you do, we believe you, but if u didnt, then the pedals could be construed as a superfluous PITA (do US rules insist on them?). In which case, there is scope for a foot accelerator...

help, lifepo4, internal resistance vs size, parallel..??

All too hard for me, i have searched, no joy Issues re a good cheap durable pouch cell lifepo4 (LFP) utility batteries? please consider in cheap ass 2-350w mode, not 750w+ US mode :). Batteries are definitely THE expensive achilles heel of ebike/evs. For the frugal majority on the planet, 350...

Synthesis on an ebike limn>lifepo4 battery swap please?

TBH I have not searched this, but i have read a lot on lifepo4/lfp & not seen it mentioned directly. In short, ARE THERE TRAPS IN CONTROLLER SETTINGS WHEN "UPGRADING" CHEMISTRY FROM LIMN 18650 PAKS TO LPF PACKS? Clearly the differing chemistry cells and packs have different voltages etc., so...

Do EV pouch cells prefer to be laid flat/horizontal?

I have never seen reference to it being relevant, but intuitively, road shocks on a vertical long thin delicate pouch cell do sound stressful. It would be good if I could be reassured that any positioning for my lifepo4 battery on my ebike is ok though.
