    My Electric Push Trailer

To me a jug is an open-topped container you put drinking stuff in - water, juice etc - and used for serving out into glasses/cups/mugs. Usually around 1 to 2L :D I'm Australian. Never heard of it being used regarding fuel containers, but it seems you just have a wider interpretation: jug =...

    My Electric Push Trailer

No problem. I notice you've called the green battery housing a 'jug', so just in case there is confusion you would probably call it a gasoline container in the US? Over here (and probably there) the green is meant to indicate 2 stroke fuel/gas - to most people anyway  The overall weight...

    My Electric Push Trailer

In an ealier thread I said I'd document the push trailer I've built, and this is it. :) I wanted a push trailer as it is moveable between bikes and easily disconnectable. Its main purpose is to assist in commuting to work, a 24km trip each way (48km per day). I got inspiration for my design...

    Full Suspension Frames for E-Bikes?

Aside from the Proflex, they all look like they are decent full suspension frames. I haven't heard of Motobecane, but it looks alright. The K2 looks like it might be a light XC style. The rest are known big names.

    Aussie Role Call

G'day, don't seem to be many from Brisbane here. I'm on the southside, right next to Daisy Hill state forest where I do most of my riding. Bikes all MTB - Giant AC 6" dually, Avanti agressor hardtail, old rigid raleigh converted singlespeed, Diamondback - rigid, plus other frames and bits and...

Electric Assist for Tadpole Recumbent Trikes...

Looks good :) How stable is the pod - does it resonate/wobble side to side at all? I've just made up an electric pusher trailer myself, and it was harder than I expected. Due to some stability issues (towing behind normal bike) I had to stiffen and lengthen it and now it weighs heaps :(...

    Tadpole Trikes in Brisbane, AU

Anyone know where I can find & test ride a tadpole style trike here in SE QLD? Once I get the first elec bike sorted, I'm thinking of buying and electrifying a taddy. :D Something a little better than 250W too I hope 8) Better ride some first - might hate the things  I've noticed a...

    Controller Overheating

I wouldn't have worked this out without the great info here. I spent some time reading the phase/hall wiring combination threads (and related). Its a pity it worked straight out of the box - with the wire colours matching. It meant I thought it was right, without trying other combinations. I've...

    Controller Overheating

That's fine - nothing broken and hopefully problem solved (haven't yet taken it out riding - been raining :x ). To an experienced E-biker, perhaps it would have been noticeable. To a first timer it seemed great - took off from start fine and reached and held 26-27km/hr easily enough. It was...

    Controller Overheating

I've just being playing with phase and hall sensor configurations. I've found one that uses only 1 amp full throttle, no load! :D Appears as though I'm lucky to still have a working controller given how it was! Amazing thing is that the old config, that used 8 amps no load, ran fine. Just...

    Controller Overheating

I noticed the controller got quite hot (but not untoucheable) with the drive wheel at full speed under no load (well, just the 26" rim and tyre spinning in air). So, before forgetting about this heat issue I have done one last check. Current under no load conditions, at full throttle, is just...

    Controller Overheating

Thanks. Yes, it is summer here and fairly hot - Brisbane, Australia. The controller stayed untouchably hot for probably 5 minutes (after stopping), which is what has me concerned. I was thinking along the lines that the motor and its small wiring might be providing higher electrical resistance...

    Controller Overheating

My controller, after 10-15mins or so of riding (the longest I've done so far), is getting rather hot. I can't hold my hand/finger on it for any longer than 1-2 seconds. It still works, but I'm concerned something is going to go up in smoke soon. My system is as follows: - 36V 15Ahr Ping...

    Throttle wire guage

Many thanks. Now I've just got to work out an arrangement on the handlebars for these items! Nah, shouldn't be an issue - trailer is just long enough for a pivot and battery to go between rear bike wheel and trailer wheel. The length of the bike though...

    Throttle wire guage

Sure, I realise that! By 36V I meant 36V system/controller. Only put the 36V in there as I don't know if the throttle wire voltages & currents are different in say, a 48V system/controller. Thanks though, as now I know I am dealing with a 5V circuit. Is there much in the way of current - ie. is...

Brake shut off - how important?

Can you please describe what wire(s) the kill switch opens/closes? Given your comment on too many wires, I'm guessing it must be one of the throttle wires rather than the brake circuit? Thanks.

    Throttle wire guage

I'm doing a cable to go from my electric push trailer to my handlebars. I'm looking at using 8 core networking cable (the blue stuff) as follows: - 3 for throttle - 2 brake - 2 regen The brake and regen are just closed/open circuits I think, so should be OK, but I'm not sure if that cable...

How much of the time are ebikes run at full throttle?

I suspect this largely depends on the power output. A lower power system is more likely to be ridden in an on-off style than a higher power system. I only just got my bike going, but at about 250W I'm already considering an on-off switch in place of the throttle :D

Sealed Pelican Hardcase for Ping Battery?

Thanks for the comments. I'm at Brisbane, Australia, so not exactly a cool climate! I've looked at fishing tackle boxes but haven't seen anything the right size and shape yet. I'm now leaning towards an ammo box as they are cheaper, more modifiable (weld on vent covers), not as likely to be...

Sealed Pelican Hardcase for Ping Battery?

Hi, I'm after some feedback on the suitability of hardshell cases for a new 36V 15Ahr Ping battery I have. I want to protect it given it is the most expensive part of setup and will be going on the side of a trailer and exposed to possible impacts with the ground or other objects - dropping bike...

BMS - is one really needed?

Thanks for the comments. Reading and thinking about it more I can see how I could get away without a BMS for discharge (keep DOD low), but charging would be a problem. If the cells were in parallel it wouldn't be such an issue, but 36V isn't what the chemistry produces :D I want to get...

BMS - is one really needed?

Hi, I'm looking at Headway cells and are considering building a 36V 10Ahr pack just by stringing 11 of them in series. For a simple one-string pack like this, is a BMS really needed? I understand care would need to be taken not to kill them by overly discharging or charging. That doesn't seem...

What type of motor did I buy?

Thanks very much! 8) Can you tell me what sort of performance you get from the motor - what is the unassisted top speed on 36V? Do you notice much resistance when pedalling and the motor is off? Any idea on range and with what sort and sized battery? Is it noisy or quiet? I've yet to buy...
