It's unfortunate the sfoc wasn't able to perform as expected. I'd appreciate if you could return the unit sometime soon, as agreed.

Only when being powered up can it enter programming mode, and only if its RX pin is pulled high (i.e. another device is signalling it wants to communicate).

Encouraging. Resistance values also look ok. This has been fixed in subsequent fw-updates, will roll this out to you shortly. Torque up and down ramp limits how fast a change in torque reference (throttle) is fed to the q-current (torque) regulator. The accelerating torque on the wheel is the...

That does seem like a developing fault in the power stage. Disconnect the controller, make sure voltage batt pos and batt neg is zero, and measure the resistance over upper and lower part of each phase leg. (phase a, b, c to batt pos and batt neg). Bummer, I was looking forward to having you...

The firmware was shipped with the facilities for programming Settings and receiving Stats disabled. My apologies. I have put the previous firmware in the Public folder. To make the installation as fail safe as possible: Disconnect everything; throttle, LED-panel, battery leads, temp sensor From...

If back-feeding (starting-up, triggering the LED startup sequence) through the 5V throttle supply, then make sure the LED-panel On/Off switch is in the On-position before doing so. This is a 12V switch that feeds the gate drivers and the battery voltage sensing unit.

Welcome back! What the LED-panel On/Off switch does is to connect the internal 12V/5V converter to the 5V network. This will fire up the processor and off we go with the LED-panel start sequence. If the start-sequence is activated with the LED-panel On/Off switch in the Off position, it means...

I have used it together with a scope and external current sensors (the internal ones are too coarse) to do just that. It was ok for inductance, but not very reliable for resistance. Using series connected high accuracy resistors was much better for that. However, most of the motors in the...

Way to go, good to see you up and running so quickly. The settings come out right from your change of battery voltage gauge percentage setting, so that's that. About the torque up/down-ramp percentage settings in the Advanced parameters section, I downloaded Kingsoft WPS Office suite and...

If you enter a percentage and send me the RealTerm send string 2 that would be fine. The sleep will shut down the power stage, so no switching. At throttle off there is just scatter, no discernable current in any direction. A very sensitive probe could perhaps display this with some granularity.

You are correct, functionality is as described in the manual. The latest S&S has it wrong, will be updated. At some point, maybe you can change the default just to confirm your excel software treats the entered percentage correctly. Thanks. The discrepancy in "Max I_batt" and "Max power from...

Reminds me of what someone said about his Alfa Romeo, it would literally break down over night by just sitting. :) Ampacity of 18g is 10-16 A, which is then derated for higher ambient temperatures or bundling. At present, there is no sleep mode function implemented in the SFOC5, it will...

There is always a direct connection between the throttle and current output, no limitations. Position estimation is dependent on bemf, and will improve with speed. At lower speed the phase between rotor magnet field and stator induced field may therefore not be optimal, thus affecting torque...

The resistance for this is about 21 mohm. Ph-to-ph this would be 42 mohm added to motor resistance. This is of the same order of magnitude as the motor resistance and should be included in the setting. If you are using a non-Microsoft Excel, this may be the cause. In any case, an instruction...

With a galvanic short, functionality will be clearly affected. I know it too well from overheating C80100s to the point where sheath melts away and shorts the phase wire to the motor cable exit. I would not recommend operation with anything but a healthy phase. When shorted to the motor - and...

Let me know if changes to the data stream would make interfacing easier. One user mentioned the need for a "legalizer switch" - i.e. speed and/or torque limitation - which would be a possibility if two-way communication was used. You did mention reversing earlier, could also be communicated...

The bolts are retained by nuts, no washer. The recess measurements are on p. 29 of the manual. The is little margin in terms of bolt length, so longer ones will be needed. Back when the SFOC was a 12 FET, I ran an external heatsink. Now the motor overheats way before the heatsink, so not needed...

We are stuck with +5 V referencing for the thermistor for this batch of prototypes. It's on the list. It now accepts all thermistors, configurable in the S&S. Data for common thermistors is provided.

Although the damage to the control chip was minor (memory, etc intact), I did end up replacing all 5 V silicon components, and some caps, just to be sure. Transient suppressing diodes are now each temp sensor wire. I have also made some hardware updates reflecting improvements made in the last...

That sounds like a proper way to interface the signals, including the throttle. And the 5.1 if there ever is one will for sure reference the sensor to GND. I will have to ask you to contain that curiosity for a few weeks, need to receive the controller exactly the way it was during operation.

Shorted MCU. I'll send you the return address by PM. Hopefully you are not discouraged and we can continue the testing as soon as it is repaired. We have yet to lift that front wheel! Thanks to the impeccable reporting from all the testing, we can get some insight as to what might be going on...

That is where the bar is at. I get the impression connecting the external temps sensor causes increased current through the MCU die, causing it to overheat and eventually lock up. Last time a sensor was connected: I would suggest connecting the sensor (any thermistor) directly to the SFOC5...
