    USA Election: TGiO!

Had me all misty, thinking of our buddy studebiker. OK, I was actually in tears -laughing. Mr. SuperPAC; Karl Rove exemplifies how diseased both he and Fox really are  http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a21_1352390776

My "Last Ditch" LiPo safety loop paid off for me today

All good questions. As a preface, I'm a PE, and do understand LiPo manufacturing and handling in detail. These cells were cycled and sorted when new a year ago, but that *was* a year ago. The charger is a home-brew, and will charge and balance each cell to three digits right of the decimal. I...

My "Last Ditch" LiPo safety loop paid off for me today

I'd designed a HV/LV cutoff battery based monitoring hardware package with a loop safety on my LiPo packs last year. The BMS itself isn't rocket science, as there's a myriad of choices out there in the marketplace. The difference was that I'd also integrated a small 40ga enamel wire loop...

    USA Election: TGiO!

Proponents were out getting stoned, and literally forgot to vote.

A reminder of lipo do's and don'ts - Fire aftermath pics

IMHO, your mistake was in fabricating a LiPo pack for a mate. You assume the responsibility and liability when shit happens. Granted, it was likely done as a favor. And no good deed goes unpunished

    Beware American A123 prismatic cells!

25% of Livonia production material was affected. One of four stations that prealign and weld the tabs was misaligned by approximately 2mm, resulting in possible pouch fusing, or pouch separation (seal) problems. Lot identifiers don't resolve to individual stations, so 100% is suspect.

    Dow-Kokam (NMC) vs. A123 (LiFePo4) comparative analysis...

Don't overlook the requirement for compression bands (as noted in EIG's proof image). The majority of the tinkers buying these cells do not realize that until it's too late.

Excellent summary. Goldbrick comes to mind; he exhibited a similar narcissistic demeanor. The best protection besides a documented paypal transaction, is not to.

    K2 Energy Power Modules

As noted in the first reply, you must perform your own module testing. Don't build on others work.

    K2 Energy Power Modules

Don't take their graphs seriously. They're drawn with a pen inserted into the marketing staff's arse. You must perform your own module testing. I sampled some loose cells, along with one module (an earlier version of their large parallel). Epic fail. Some of the fault was dodgy welding by an...

A123 from China. C and avoid [SOLVED]

Ah yes, the finer elements of ES. Classic. Your other posting ID in this thread stated the same. :!: jmho.

Aptera is gone for good. :'(

In the usual "lets get fed funding and suck it dry" MO, the CEO of Aptera managed to successfully auger the company after blowing through a 150mil loan. Douchebag  Although the Aptera poster child was the cute little aerodynamic three-wheeler that appeared somewhat like an airplane...

A123 from China. C and avoid [SOLVED]

agniusm, Thank You for taking the time to warn others about this supplier, and the surplussed prismatic A123 HD20 cells. Buying from unknown Chinese vendors can certainly be a dodgy affair at best. It wasn't a waste of your time detailing it for us. Hopefully you'll be successful in your...

GM to introduce an all electric vehicle in 2013

General Motors (NYSE:GM) Chevrolet announced it will produce an all electric version of the Chevy Spark mini-car, the Spark EV. It will be sold in limited quantities in select and global markets, including California. A123 Systems (NASDAQ:AONE) will supply the advanced nanophosphate lithium-ion...

Battery Explosion and Fire destroys OSU solar vehicle

And in the "adding insult to injury dept"; The same person managing the program at OSU had been provided a well engineered modular battery pack composed of A123 M1 cells (2008). Because, like fuzzy fizzix sez; The energy density was too low for their needs  So they removed the modular...

Battery Explosion and Fire destroys OSU solar vehicle

Yes, at least one car drag racer is set on using RC LiPo's in massive series/parallel. And the owner-promoter is such a blowhard that a car-b-que or worse is certain. Bekins Ron -are you paying attention?

Another instance of non-abused hobbyking battery failure

No shit sherlock. At the prices RC guys are wanting, these cells are probably assembled in a Guangzhou dirt floor sweatshop.

Another instance of non-abused hobbyking battery failure

Yup, the folks who know better than to stuff a herd of lipo's into a car are waiting for the inevitable. And where you'll point your finger Ron. These ES ebiker wanks have a much smaller bomb to worry about. How many NEDRA guys are packing their drag cars with LiPo's. I'll watch the...

    Nasty LiPo fire

Sorry. Thankfully there were no injuries or added loss. Hopefully it'll stand as a serious reminder to others here that you cannot turn your back on LiPo, even when it all seems right. I also noticed the guy who was big on promoting and establishing their use on ES has also commented in the...

    A123 20AH cells source?

Would you trade your home built bike for an optibike?

Two more for the ES memorable quotes lineup: (1) (2) LiPo is just extremely dangerous, and it's easy to forget you have a bomb in your midst when it's been delivering excellent cycle performance for months. Besides the obvious overcharge/overdischarge ignition triggers; environmental...

    New supply of a123....off brand?

Similar to A123 cells. These are clones, maybe China BAK. And possibly assembled from partial remaining A123 Systems materials. Or not at all. Olevin Power  Fine for some random RC use.

Very Nicely composed. Although personally, I believe Bob is looking to hang blame for his problems rather than a venue to share his technical contributions.
