I found it! The Hat Song!

Thanks for that DJ, that really got me giggling :D The Swedish "translation" is brilliant: "glue a piece of ham, cool-ish" ??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatten_ar_din

jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

That's good to hear. I'm not trying to knock this method Gordo, I think it's very neat. Just pointing out that thermoplastics like nylon do creep with time: http://www.intechpower.com/material-information/creep-time-limits-and-yield-stress/ Nylon has better creep resistance than most, and using...

jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

I nearly posted that video myself, but if I've understood right it means that all the clamping force has to come from a pair of threaded plastic rods. Plastics tend to creep under load, so the clamping force will gradually decrease with time. One possibility would be to use steel threaded rod...

    100a PSI fuse

So one question keeps nagging me: how do you protect against one of the cells in such a 'supercell' shorting out internally? Or does that never happen?

    Golf Cart

Most big series motors are fine running at 12V. Brush friction is enough to prevent them from overspeeding, but like TD said you don't want to use higher voltage. The series motors I'm using in my mini will run happily run at 12V all day without any load. It's hard to tell from the photo, but...

    Re: London And England Rioting

That's a real sickener. I was thinking more of a mass gatherings in thousands, rather than smaller groups protecting individual properties. I think that's the only way it would be effective. Obviously it would be difficult to bring a large number of people together at once, and prevent...

    Re: London And England Rioting

Talking with friends about the rioting, someone mentioned that one of the brighter notes is local people using Twitter to get together and help clear up the mess afterwards. The police seem to be taking a softly, softly approach, trying to avoid further provocation or excuse for further...

Hi Paul Thanks for the offer, but I recently got hold of a 80V/600A forklift controller that will do for initial testing. I know someone local who may be interested in the Curtis controller though. I'll pass the information on. I gave up on the idea of building a small trike for the same...

Convert your 48V charger into 100V for 24s for CHEAP !

Doc, I wonder if you could give me a little newbie advice about choosing a suitable blocking diode for DC converters? I'm building a charging system using 48V to 3.6V DC/DC converters for a LiFe pack. The converters are rated at 20A output. Do I just need a diode rated at better than 3.6V/20A...

    Terminating the 15Ah and 20Ah Cell-Man cells

The countersunk nuts would work just as well and be cheaper/easier to install, but if I was building the pack I'm sure one of them would fall right into the middle of the pack just as I was finishing it. You could minimise that risk by making the nuts a push-fit into the recesses though. Just...

    Terminating the 15Ah and 20Ah Cell-Man cells

I was looking at Ripperton's pack yesterday, trying to work out how those tabs were joined http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php/ripperton-electric-track-bike-41173p35.html It looks as if those screws go through the tabs straight into the acetal block. I'm sure it would take a...

Honda Accord build - starting now

I know McDesign's original truck plans were for lead acid, but according to the first post here this one will be lithium. I added 300 lbs to the stock weight to round it up to 3000. I doubt you could get enough lead in the Honda to get the desired range without needing serious upgrades to...

Honda Accord build - starting now

If you plug the numbers for your car into the Ecomodder calculator: http://ecomodder.com/forum/tool-aero-rolling-resistance.php it'll give a pretty good idea of energy use. Taking a CdA of 0.65 and a weight of 3000 lbs it gives a power requirement of around 15 kW at 70 mph, so taking into...

Honda Accord build - starting now

That Motenergy motor has a tail shaft, so the cheap way to provide AC, vacuum and 12V would be to drive the original pumps and alternator using a belt pulley on the tail shaft. If you don't like that approach you could run a Meanwell 12V power supply straight off your traction pack and use it...

I don't know about liposuction, but I could definitely use a lipo infusion. I've just started working on this after a long break. Just dropped the original engine and subframe and I've got a few mates coming round to help me lift the shell off and roll her back. She'll get a good scrub down and...

I've been watching Daniel's build from the start over on DIY Electric Car. He just keeps ploughing on regardless of setbacks, and that seems to be the common factor to everyone involved in the racing scene. I really like the pioneer spirit that comes over in your video. I think this is a period...

Glad to hear your bike showed so much promise Chris, but sorry to hear about the motor problems, especially as I was one of the people who suggested running paralleled motors at the start of your build  It makes sense that any differences in motor resistance will diverge under heavy load...

    Custom elektric bike build

Very nice work Linukas! I've just been talking about building a stainless frame with another member, so it's great to see this. Do you know how much the bare frame weighs? A concentric swingarm pivot and bottom bracket is also on my wish list. I'm curious about your design. I can't see any...

HP 3kW PSU - charging solution

Just a note of caution, the PSU in the data sheet looks identical to the photos I've found of the model you have, but the pin arrangement for the small connectors may be different. I'd suggest using a 5k resistor rather than a jumper to test the enable connections first.
