jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Sweet! I can see it will be a great aesthetic match as well as meeting your goals of wider tyre & allowing more tyre choices. That Samco is one expensive Buell

High end motors - priced out of existence?

Maybe it's time to do just that 8) Even if it ends up being a few % less efficient and/or ~10% heavier than a highly refined design, it would be nice to have control over the costs and lead time with a homebuilt one.

jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Great weekend report, thanks for the writeup. The fact that Chris can hand over the keys to a 700 Volt racebike for the rider to charge and operate solo is a real testament to the good design and construction! I'm stoked to hear racing is getting tight and close with swapping leads, this...

    E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Ouch that is a touch lesson. Yep, backing out the lever adjust all the way is a necessary pre-bleed step, otherwise you have preload on the plunger and can't fully fill the system with enough fluid.

Magura MT5e (Hydraulic Brakes) for E-Bikes and Pedelecs

Magura has been making ebrake hydro's for several years. Typically they are done in production runs for OEMs only and not sold through retail channels cause the demand just hasn't been there yet. Looks like that's changing which is cool to see. I've been running the MT5 front and MT2 rear for...

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

That's called 'spoke pairing' or 'paired holes' when pairs of spokes sit closer together to each other instead of all having equidistant spacing. Yes, they can be as strong as 1, 2 or 3 cross. Magic Pie has narrow flange spacing which is a downside but at least they gave paired spoke holes...

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

No, 1 cross is plenty with a large diameter hub. 2 or more cross would likely cause more problems than provide benefit. I'm assuming your hub is 200mm in diameter or larger. If so, than the bracing angles of 1 cross with that rim and hub will be similar to 3 cross in a normal bike wheel.

    Welcome to the Electric Horsemen

Beautiful, I think you've executed your vision superbly on this build. p.s. I like how you casually have that NYX frame in the background...just another spare Ebike part in willows workshop 8)

    Tack weld BMC/MAC Clutch

No worries, just keep in mind the motor will always be spinning afterward the mod so the extra drag from it will cause you to drain the battery a bit faster.

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

Ok, so you have reasonably large holes drilled into your hub flange (enough to fit 11 or 12g) and reasonably small holes in your rim (only big enough for ~14g). Your eyeleted rim holes will make wheel building nice but give less tolerance for poor spoke/nipple alignment. I think your rim hole...

    Tack weld BMC/MAC Clutch

I've seen it done and work reliably for some several thousand km. Your plastic/composite gears and key on the shaft will be the next weakest links. Just take it to someone with a beefy welder, 3min job

UAV pilot travels with lipo in commercial jet, catches fire

Thats a good point and the user base is really rising fast. Endless-Sphere readers are probably some of the best educated lithium ion users out there, best equipped to appreciate the risks and act appropriately based on them. I hope others will follow suit.

UAV pilot travels with lipo in commercial jet, catches fire

What might you do with the carry on bag if it starts smoking? I really wish people wouldn't. The quality of RC lipo is just too inconsistent - in other words, untrustworthy. I know this from my own experience buying various Hobby King packs and finding some defective cells. Even many users...

    Welcome to the Electric Horsemen

Nice, I'm getting really excited for you! If your engineer doesn't question those items, I'd be keen to follow in your foot steps and see if they'd sign off on one of my home-builts. Oh, and that leather bag craftsmanship is exquisite!

The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

The relevant measurements to answer your question are: Diameter of hole in hub flange (choose appropriate spoke gauge at neck of spoke based on this measurement) Diameter of hole drilled into rim or eyelet dimensions (choose appropriate nipple to match spoke gauge at thread of spoke based on...

    Welcome to the Electric Horsemen

Looking good! Things I spot are: *Road legal tyres, rims, horn, switchgear, lights & indicators. *HV in orange conduit *Isolated LV system *S-pedalec brake levers & maybe self retracting kickstand? Any thoughts on how handlebar/stem/forks/cranks/pedals will get treated for getting the bike plated?

    bosch classic ebike plastic gear

Bosch supply only complete drive units (DU) to bike shops via their service partners, not internals so I do not think you will find an original Bosch reduction gear on its own easily. Interesting to see an aftermarket gear maker.

Why I'm pulling my Bafang BBS02

Sounds like a dedicated ebike (rather than a conversion) might suit you better, or a front hub motor kit which can be installed/removed with minimal disruption to the bike.
